“THE WHO, WHAT, WHERE AND WHINES of the Bear’s Family” ©
[do not steal header, title, Valentine Bear or story - please]

I published this little ditty on my website for Valentine’s Day, 2000. I thought I’d share it with blogland. We have a family -Ted the husband, Teddi the wife, and the little “Junior Bear” -the cute cub with the tiny pink heart- pops into the scene every once in a while, but nobody’s paying much attention to him. It goes like this———-

Hello. I’m a reporter for the Times Herald-NotePad
We are here with the Bears’ family and it’s
Valentine’s Day. I’m gonna record the conversations
around here on a typical Valentine’s Day.
As a reporter, for a story I need to ask…
Who, What, Where and in this case…Whines!

Let’s listen in—
TED: Honey? I brought you these flowers my dear.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
TEDDI: Oh, how lovely! I’ll just put them in a vase
and place them on the table here for display!
This is for you….
TED: Great! A new tie. And polka dot…fabulous.
In fact, I’ll wear it now. How’s it look, Junior?

Looks great, Pa!

TEDDI: So, Love, what plans do you have for us today?
TED: Well, how ’bout this? We could go over the river and through the wood to visit Gramma’s and Red Riding Hood. And then…..
TEDDI: Hmmmmmm, are you sure you wanna do that? It’ll take up most of the day just getting there through the wood. Then ya gotta come back in the dark.
TED: Ya, s’pose you’re right. How ’bout…that thing where the sky meets the land? It’s close. That pretty thing? That arch?
TEDDI: That arch is a rainbow, dear…with a pot of gold at the end. But, we’ve chased after that and find no treasure. Besides, those funny little red bearded men lurking around, all dressed in green, are kinda weird, that’s something we do in March. Or are you talkin’ ’bout Micki D’s club?

Wait..fries’re good.

TED: Ah, rainbow room..okay, right. Then, what do you think of visiting ol’ Jack Frost down the lane?
TEDDI: Nah, he’s too cold, not friendly. Anyway, we were just over there last month, and one time in December, remember? Ol’ man Winter was there too, along with some silly fat old man in a red suit. When he laughed, I got hungry. Reminded me of jelly!
TED: What would you like to do then, my sweets?
TEDDI: It is a day of romance, let’s go out to dine!
TED: ‘K…where? Oh, I know! Goldie’s is good! Always get good service there. The porridge is real tasty. Whatcha think? Sound good?
TEDDI: Porridge is too hot you always say. And, I think it’s too cold. Junior is the only one that really likes it. He thinks it’s just right. Let’s go some place else.

Do I getta go too, Ma?

TED: ACRE WOOD, in town? On 100 Street?
TEDDI: Mmmmmmmm, they do have luscious honey there for our biscuits! But, never enough. Always gotta ask for more, and that Robin guy…he acts like it’s a sin to serve more, even if I do ask kindly. And those two small brown eyes peeking through those swinging kitchen door portals. I bet that’s ol’ man Poo probably fearing for his precious honey. And the waiter!! Always mumblin’ and has a real bad, gloomy, attitude. Never changes outta his purplish coat either, and that’s a bother.
TED: Well, how ’bout Blanca’s? I know it’s mexican food. It’s not too bad. Whaddya think of there?
TEDDI: Yummy food. And the proprietor, she’s a real princess. Ya, that could be okay. On second thought Blanca has those seven guys sauntering in and around through the dining room pretending to be mariachi! Give me a break. They’re no more mariachi than I am. And whistlin’ too, spittin’ mouth juices as they go. Who do you know that whistles while they work?
TED: We could go west of town, out by Warner. Go to the STUDIO…that’s a great diner.

HEY!! Anybody know I’m still here?

TEDDI: The STUDIO is okay. Tho, that man with the real long hairy nose? He thinks he’s a real super genius, but I can overlook his shortcomings. Nice tail tho. *giggle* What day is it? On Wednesday they serve French…and Pepe is the chef. Personally, I think Pepe stinks. Now Tuesday is good. Elmer fixes up some real good dishes from his huntin’ twips. The wabbit stew is good. If today is Monday they always have Acme and Turner there for conferences. Sunday they are not open…That ol’ grumpy guy, Sam. You know, the one from some park up in the Northwest? Joseymite, or something like that? Well, he serves some real tough varmits on Saturday. And on Thursday, it’s good. Foghorn fries up a good, crispy batch of leghorns. Let’s see, Friday. Oh yes, it’s fish night. And we can eat fish anytime here, fresh from the crick. Still, it’s Monday so it’ll be full of corporate people. Nah, not a good place today, that’s for sure.
TED: WITCH’s OVEN…that’s open isn’t it?
TEDDI: Nope. That place shut down when two children went in there and never came back out. And they’re still missing. It’s a wonder, huh?
TED: I’m runnin’ outta ideas. The only other place that may not be full of patrons on Valentine’s Day is the HORSEMAN’s cafe. Wanna try that place?
TEDDI: That’s okay! Ya, let’s go there. No, wait a minute. You gotta go through Sleepy Holler. That’s too spooky for Junior. Let’s wait and go there when Icabod can babysit.

Oh, man!..can Katrina babysit me instead?

TED: The only other one I can think of that we have gone to and liked is Cindy’s Bistro. Wanna go there?
TEDDI: Cindy is always spending more time flirtin’ with all the possible “prince charmings” and giving no attention to the paying patrons! Besides, she is always walking around with one shoe on and one off. The Health Department should really be notified on that. And the old, fat lady carrying that stick?…Bibbidi bobbidi boo my brown hairy ar…

Oooooo, careful Ma!

TEDDI: I have an idea. Let’s just have a candle-lit dinner, and be together, snug as a bear, here. We can make it romantic.
TED: Wonderful! *blushing* That’s why I love you. You always know what to say and how to make me *shufflin’ feet* happy. I love you!
TEDDI: And I you dear.

ehhhh, th-th-th-that’s all folks!

This week, in honor of Valentine’s Day, Skittles wants us to do a theme on “LOVE”

About 15 years ago I composed this poem, and I published it on my website [remember those?] in 1999. Then, just recently I added it to my Poetry and Haiku blog -which is linked on my sidebar. I share with you my poem. Please, this is mine, and I appreciate that it isn’t copied by anyone. Thanks for your consideration. The link I provided should open in a new page.

~ Ten on Tuesday

[I don't lay claim to this political cartoon. I just embellished it some with an addition of my own caricature to show where everyone stands with me...to 'work' with my Ten on Tuesday this week. If the author wishes me to take it down, I will. With my sincere apologies of my wrong-doing]

10 things about politics

Oh pahleeeze, you really want me to list ONLY TEN? You think it’s wise to get me started on this subject?

With my Fun Monday last week, I added a very political stand on my bucket list, and someone commented, “If you don’t like it, you should run for office“. Well, I say: “Sho’ me da money to campaign!” “I’ll run”. But-cha better vote for me!

Okay, now in all seriousness.
[Well at least for the most part of my ten anyway. :::snort:::]
Here we go:

1. In 2008, I’ve seen a lot of tears shed, and I’m thinking to myself, is this a weakness or a ploy? If it IS weakness, then it’s gonna be a hindrance to our country. We need strength, and tears shed will not work very well diplomatically. To me it interferes with or delays action or progress in any situation and it certainly isn’t good for politicking.

2. In 2004 Bush’s Campaign Slogan was “Yes, America Can”. Can what? Falter? [in the beginning of his two presidential terms the price of oil per barrel was $20. Now look!!] Yep, we sure CAN alright.

3. In 1984 Reagan’s slogan was “It’s Morning Again in America”….Okay, wake up and smell the coffee!!!

4. In 1992 Clinton’s slogan was “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow”. Hmmmmm, sounds a tad bit familiar – song lyrics maybe? Our dear Scarlet O’Hara once said: “After all, tomorrow’s another day.”….I say Mr. Billy was thinking more about Ms. Lewinsky and their appointment in the ‘morrow.

5. One of my favorite people* once said: “Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedies.” I say….”Right on Bro!!!”

6. In the Devil’s Dictionary the word politics is a noun. ‘Nough said.

7. “Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke.” * *

8. Politics? Eight words –See no evil, hear no evil, and…evil.

9. Then there’s a memory of Dan Quayle. He touring “Latin America” and speaking to the media saying: “I should have studied Latin and paid attention more so I can speak to these people.” OH MY GAWD!!!

10♥. And my last comment is: In politics, the hogs get fed and become fatter by the day…. yet the pigs [not in a derogatory sense] get butchered.

- – -

Presidential Campaign Slogans
* Groucho Marx
* * Will Rogers
10♥ hogs=congress, pigs=common folk

- – -

And then, on the same subject, have you ever wondered about the two top government officials, when they go into office, their salary is a mere $200,000.00 or less [I know they're monetary worth is much much more but....] and they leave office richer by millions than when they took office? Something’s wrong with this picture. It just BLOGgles my mind!!!

I, personally, consider it a courtesy to post as soon as I can regarding gifts given to me for my blog. I want to show my appreciation right away. It’s just, for me, the right and proper thing to do instead of waiting on any special one day. So, in heart-felt gratitude:

Jen over at Tidbits of the Tippets presented me with this lovely award! I am so thankful to receive this Jen….and I take your words posted about my blog to heart! You’re a dear to pass along such a sweet award and such caring words!! Thank you so much! You most certainly made my day.
She says:

I wanna pass this award along to Anni over at Hootin’ Anni’s and also award this to Skittles’ Place. These are 2 of the newest blogs I’ve found and I absolutely love them. Both these ladies show so much love to everyone else and have such fun blogs!! If you haven’t been over to their blogs, go and visit today! You won’t regret it! :)

- – -

And dear Mary at Mary’s Writing Nook sent this along to me Monday morning…

She says:

I’m sending you a little something that I would like you to add to your awards page. Your blog is an inspiration and each post shows your big heart. I hope you enjoy it.”

I do!! I do enjoy it…that is close to awe inspiring….what a beauty!!!

More Valentines being sent out to some who leave SWEET as Candy comments!! —

Dear hubby wanted to trade his books in at the Used Book Store [the ones he took off the shelves when we cleaned house really good last week]. And, when that happens, it takes forever to get their offer ’cause there are so many who do book trading. Well, while he waits patiently, I don’t! I go walking and most times I end up at Hobby Lobby. Before we relocated, I had made a craft project [wreaths] for each holiday of the year. I gave them all except my Halloween and Christmas wreaths to Goodwill stores. So, now, now that we’re settled once again, I figured it was time to do some craft work to ‘spiffy up the joint’ for the holiday. From this on our workbench [above photo]:

…to this. It’s a grapevine oval wreath. Nestled among the branches are two cardinals [RED for Valentine's Day of course], an ‘antiqued -white washed’ miniature bird house [I chose this one 'cause the 'entry' is cut in a heart shape. Glass strings of hearts and beads, glass heart-shaped ornaments, dusty white flowers [to me, they look like weeds! LOL], and of course the flower of deep passionate love, the red rose. I have always loved the miniature ‘sweetheart’ roses, so I chose them to decorate the wreath.

I placed the cardinals near the birdhouse, one sitting stealthily in the shrubbery. And I figure the ‘male’ would be checking on his hatchlings, so I put him perched on the house’s fencing. Both birdhouse and fencing are wooden.

This, of my phavorite photos, is of Tahoe. This huge basket is where I store all my scrap yarn balls from my finished crochet designs. She loves baskets! When I do laundry, and bring in the clothes basket loaded with clean clothes –she is so thrilled she can hardly wait for me to empty it. I’m mean tho, LOL, I make her wait patiently until I complete the folding job taking one at a time out of the basket. Instead of dumping them all at once on the counter to fold while she lazes happily in her domain. Like I said…I’m mean! She’s so darned cute trying to jump in full basket and I say “Wait your turn”…she then sits until she thinks I’m not paying attention…and tries again…and again. But, I catch her. In this photo tho, I dumped all my yarn balls out at once and she was in it like a shot!!!!! “Can you see me now?” Not to mention Winston, the other cat of the family —he began chasing the yarn balls. And of course that little trick of his didn’t go too well with me, ’cause he caused me more yarn winding to straighten up the mess in the first place. :::sigh::: They’re both so darned cute tho, their purr-r-r-sonalities, y’gotta love ‘em!!!

Sandy, at Myanderings sent along this cute, adorable award for me!! I love this. As I told her, I am definitely related to the monkey –I LOVE bananas and I can spread my toes to grab things. This is a precious award. I thank you very much —and the ironic part of the whole thing is that I was just about ready to go to HER blog and tell her she had something from me today!!! Gotta love it!!

If I may, I’d like to pass this “Royal Banana” on to: Vic, Mary, Carolyn, Karen, Kelli, & Jen

. Dear diary:

I woke up this morning with a wonderful feeling and a big smile! I just had a very ‘theatrical’ dream. A nice dream. A good dream!! Nothing happened of course, nothing in a twisted way, but none-the-less it was a trip back in time. In the dream I went back to meeting a teacher of mine. A teacher that made me acquire a passion for, and then becoming efficient and skillful in English grammar!! Not to mention I had a big crush on him!! He was tall, good looking. A forceful voice that carried to the back of the classroom. Ummmm, ya, that’s where this girl always sat…in the back. Where I could literally get by with pranks and just kinda goof off while I did my time in jail – attended class and learned.

But for some reason this guy always ‘caught’ me in the act! And consequently I was made to stay after school with him!

After attending another school for a short, short period I began to excel in the public school system [Junior High]. I think this has a lot to do with the teachers. Let me just say, they weren’t nuns!!! And this English teacher was MALE! What else can I say —teen-aged girl, and a wonderful MAN teacher!!!

Even today, I often find myself going back to those days I would deliberately get into trouble [one time I remember so vividly is when I was caught shooting a paper airplane across the room...I had to stay after school and make 100 planes and make the basket -waste basket- before I could go home. It turned out fun and filled with giggles and stories of his 'commanding days' in the Army!] so I would stay a few extra hours with this guy. And eventually we had a great rapport. We actually started to enjoy each other’s company and have a good time together. Now, no nothing came of it, other than my school-’daze’ crush; nothing but a guilt-free bonding and a lasting friendship until I went on my way to growing up and leaving, while he remained.

His name? Mr. Williams. James Williams!!!!
Tall, dark hair. Wonderful smile. Ex-military.
Quite ‘human’ after class…
Did I say tall? He was very tall!!

Okay, so it was a sweet, innocent, wonderful dream. I had to immediately get out on Google and search for any chance of finding dream interpretations online. I typed in my quandary and clicked….all to have my teen-aged fantasy once again, come tumblin’ down like the walls of Jericho…

    Teacher

To see your teacher (past or present) in your dream, suggests that you are seeking some advice, guidance, or knowledge. You are heading into a new path in life and ready to learn by example or from a past experience. Consider your own personal experiences with that particular teacher. What subject was taught? Alternatively, it may relate to issues with authority and seeking approval. You may [sic: 'be'] going through a situation in your waking life where you feel that you are being treated like a student or in which you feel you are being put to a test.

- – -
What? That’s insane. This dream wasn’t at all about tests. Tests? I hate tests. I was really hoping that the interpretation would have been something out of Soap Opera Digest! I woke up with a wonderful feeling about life and my ‘ex crush’…now, I’m bummed. I think I’ll go back to bed and see if I can pick up where I had such wonderful feelings…I’m adult now, and so was Mr. Williams…tho, I grew older, and he didn’t!! Does that tell you anything? Maybe I’ll go look up ‘crush’ or ‘love’ and see what that tells me. I gotta find something good from this dream or I’ll be ‘crushed’!!!

    Crush

To dream that you are crushing something, denotes that you are under tremendous stress over a decision that you need to make.

To dream that you have a crush on somebody, is a literal reflection of your attraction and fascination for that person. To see your crush in your dream, represents your current infatuation with him or her. If you find yourself thinking about him during the day, then it is understandable that his image will appear in your dream during the night. If your dream that your crush rejects you, refers to not knowing how he or she really feels about you and whether he likes you or not.

If you dream that somebody has a crush on you, then it represent you own sense of worthiness and esteem.

To dream about a former crush, refers to that particular period in your life and what you were feeling. The former crush represents a point in time when you first had the crush on that person.

To dream that your crush rejects you or stood you up, represents your feelings of insecurities and anxieties. The idea of not knowing how your crush feels about you is driving you nuts. Assuming that he or she will reject you before you actually know, saves your from getting hurt. You are afraid to find out how he or she feels about you.

There, now it’s at least a bit of reality! No exam necessary today, thank gawd. But, I still remain anxious to finish the dream, hoping it doesn’t end in a nightmarish finale!!

[ps...there was another man teacher in school that I had a crush on...in high school, Mr. Robert Webb. Biology. Va, va, va, voom!!! That may be another blog moment sometime down the line when another dream pops into my night's slumber! Who knows]
