Tuesday’s Heads or Tails prompt is “GUARD”. November 4th, being America’s election day, I stand on a tall podium and am voicing my right to opinions and freedom of speech, GUARDing my thoughts and ideals —GUARDing my inalieanble rights to freedom of the land on which I live, on freedom of living the American Dream.

It’s a LONG, very long, winded speech as I stand proud and clear minded. It all follows. Be prepared to stay a while, or tho I feel saddened that you’re leaving because of my political stand, rest assured I feel that my words in MY BLOG are worthy of my personal views. I don’t expect anyone to agree with my point of view, nor am I trying to have a heated debate issue. I’m not after anything of the sort. If you disagree, fine….and I’ll state right here, right now — refrain from leaving hate remarks in the comments…I WILL DELETE!!! My post is MY post…my point, my GUARDed opinion and very personal…..

!!!I’m in BLUE —for everything Tuesday!!!
The Blue party —The American Democrats

My favorite Quote from the Campaign Trail:
“What the naysayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.”
~~Senator Obama

Well, Tuesday is the day of a new dawn….and praying a new beginning for a stronger USofA!! There has been a ‘meme’ going on around the blog land of ours. I happen to see it at RJFlamingo’s the other day and I wanted to say, along with her and many others, it’s not a state of sadness. On the contrary!!! Not in this country. Blue is the color of PRIDE! Being blue is of the Democratic party. If you’re American, and you haven’t voted yet…Go out. Stand in line —your vote is worth it. Vote for a CHANGE. Get the Republicans out of the White House. Vote for the new commander in chief…Barack Obama!!! That is my strong opinion!! Ever since the beginning! I’ve gone to campaign rallies for months and I feel an urgent need to get this country back on its feet with a stronger foundation than what we’ve had for nearly a decade. A decline in the confidence and stability of a great nation. There is a need to rebuild our shattered country that the Republican Party is leaving behind for us as their legacy. One that we need to vote OUT of office by choosing the right man….The Honorable Barack Obama!!

Facts and statements I’ve heard during the campaigns:

I’ve heard so many times, over and over again around our area that people actually think that Barack Obama is NOT an American born citizen….Here’s his birth certificate.

Also, the stipulation of Obama NOT being baptized. Ummmmmm, people! Religion is NOT an issue here for me, it’s who is BEST for making our country a stronger nation and once again respected as it was before, across the world —the hate and distrust I’ve seen since 9/11 in ‘our own backyard’ is disheartening –lack of respect for our OWN people, who cares if one neighbor is black, or white, or Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, or doesn’t practice ANY religion…people are good, not matter WHAT they believe…there are people who are NOT so good in ANY religious sect also….believe it or not there HAVE been atheists running our country as Commander in Chief throughout our history. Jefferson for one. In the ancient times and modern times of the world, religion has been a factor over so many deaths…a crucifix comes to mind. Now, look at the death tolls from wars vs. religion…I could go on and on on this subject, but it’s not the case in point today.

Then, there is the fact of the “Not wearing a USA flag pin on a lapel!” Get real!!! Is that truly an issue here? Does this actually account for being a PATRIOT? Have you all noticed that McCain doesn’t wear one? Either man, without a lapel pin of the flag….does this make either one less of a patriot? So many, MANY issues I’ve seen and heard; so many darned trivial issues, it makes my gut ache!! The thing to do is DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.

McCain.

1] I lived in Arizona for a dozen years. I didn’t like him as a politician then, and I still don’t. My best word to describe the man as a Senator –then, and now, would be ‘wishy-washy’!

2] He so many times has come across as weak in willpower, yet he has an unknown temper [for many people across the world] that I fear. Many many times in Washington he as thrown ‘tantrums’ and even the majority of Washington in Congress doesn’t like him. Not because he’s a maverick as he likes to call himself, it’s for the fact he makes poor choices for most. Does that say something to you? He wants America to continue with the war in Iraq. Why? Is there a purpose that we need to be there? At the cost of BILLIONS of dollars that we have doled out as taxpayers, to keep the troops there? Does this sound familiar to Viet Nam? Not to mention the lives that were wasted and are wasted, daily? Is it because of the mess that was started in Bush’s administration? Or perhaps he wants to continue with the exorbitant actions to save face? Save face for what? To show the world just how insipid and wasteful we are as a government? For nearly a decade I’ve seen the fall and decline of our government in the view of other foreign countries. What were our allies at the beginning of the Republican [NOT just Bush or McCain, but Republican in general] government, and today?…now look…so many around the world hate us instead of revere us as a powerful country. We’ve weakened in the eyes of many of our own citizens, not to mention world wide countries. During the campaigning the last several months, many-a-time I’ve heard the question arise from the Republicans: “Obama is not experienced”. Ummmmm, in my humble opinion, NO ONE is experienced to be commander in chief if they’ve never been. That is like comparing apples to oranges. You don’t have the experience at a new job until you’ve worked there for a while! Give me a break! [Not to mention Sarah Palin! She has proven HERSELF that she would not know diddly squat on how to run the American government without being prompted with a script! She's just, as she stated, a hockey mom. Nothing else. It's been brought up that she has 'ripped' into abusing her authority in the state of Alaska, the RNC has allowed a budget for clothing and her CHILDREN? Ummmmm, is this fair? While so many Americans can barely afford food on the table at night? Is this what the RNC does with the registered Republicans' donations to the GOP? I think that stinks! Truly stinks!! Unfair to the taxpayers and the Republican Party. What would she do to our citizens if, by chance that McCain would die in office? And SHE would be our commander in chief? Scary thought for me. Very scary to even visualize. It chills my bones. During her rallies, she is quoted as saying "It's nice to be among REAL Americans." Just what are all those that are not at the rallies? Democrats, mind you? Are we FALSE Americans?

And, another thing lately that is bothering me about this man, McCain...he claims that he's NOT Bush [which he isn't] but yet his speeches and his policies mimic the same thing that we Americans have suffered through the seven years of this last eight-year administration! AND! Voted nine times out of ten FOR Bush’s policies?

Thinking of this new homeland security lie —I don’t feel it. I feel we are no more safe today than we were in 2001. Still, Bush has breached our privacy….AND McCain proclaims to continue. McCain’s promises lately are: “I will WIN the war, I know how to win, my friends, I’ve been there.” I say: Firstly, is war the only just means of making our country safe? Have you looked around the cities Mr. McCain? Do you even comprehend the state of being of your own neighborhood, the cities in which comprise America? Just because you’re a war hero doesn’t make you fit for presidency.

Another of his speeches’ stand is tax cuts….they seem to me the same as the Bush administration. Granted I don’t have to worry on this, but the issue is in every Republican presidency, the rich get richer and the poor or middle class go deeper in debt, because of the capitalistic Republican party –does deregulation ring a bell? Not to overlook the economy of our country and what the effect of the markets around the world are in now, because of it.

I LOVE the fact that Obama continues to say “WE” not “I” like McCain -being the ‘we’ are the WHOLE country, and ‘I’ is John! Obama also says “Main Street”…being that USA is all American. McCain stated in one debate, referring to the plumber…”You’re rich, congratulations”. He’s probably said that to all his Republican co-horts on Capitol Hill also. The middle class or the poor, be damned.

Have y’all read what McCain’s military LIES record was like?

3] Headlines show: “McCain Flew on the Edge in the Navy”. [1960] Believe it or not, his FIRST crash [among MANY] was in Corpus Christi! He wrote in his autobiography that the engine quit….Navy investigations show differently. He wasn’t paying attention and used a power setting too low. Crashing into the Gulf. Navy Officials repeatedly shows they questioned his flying skills and judgment. His ‘most serious lapse’ was over Southern Spain. McCain was ‘clowning around’ in a Skyraider flying into electrical wires. Causing a blackout over Spain. [1961]

In 1965 he crashed a T-2 Trainer in Virginia. Other ‘accidents’ are on the United States Naval Records. Yet, he never brings this up when questioned…it’s always his 5 1/2 years in Viet Nam. In the ’60s, actions that he showed then would NOT be tolerated in today’s Navy. His lapse in judgment would end his career as a Navy pilot. Perhaps McCain, being a grandson and son of Naval Admirals swayed exemption of reprimanding him? I don’t know…thing is, the GOP campaign refused to divulge any of this information to the public. Yet, it IS public record…look it up…do research.

Others, of the same era, and some of the same squadron dubbed McCain ‘flat-hatter’ meaning in civil terms “showoff”.

In 1965, a crash where he supposedly tells in his autobiography that -’flying to Philadelphia’, but he reported, in the record, that he was flying to Virginia!! He flew a USN plane to see an Army-Navy game…and crashed…taxpayers expense once again. Yet, of the same mentioned crash, his report and the Navy’s investigation, show so differently…USN’s investigation showed nothing wrong with the plane…yet, as he stated ‘the engine quit’ in his records.

In Viet Nam his plane was equipped with SAM alarms which means that the pilot can maneuver, avoiding missiles. Hmmmmm. On the other hand, he may again be a ‘war hero’…but his prior judgment and actions -during his Navy stint AND now, today- along with his infamous maverick attitude in Congress does not make him qualify as a leader or a nation in my opinion.

URBAN LEGEND PROOF Found online about what David Letterman wrote [it's a proven hoax, people!!] this past month… and tho it’s interesting, it brings up other questions. Questions about why so many people agree to disagree on certain subjects of why America is ‘great in the minds of its citizens and those wanting to come to our country’. There was one statement he [FALSELY] wrote, and only one, that I would totally agree with, tho it’s still from an online ‘urban legend’ and that is “Don’t rely on the media for news!” Sure, it helps put doubts and questions in your mind…but!!! I say, check out the records…they’re public records and you can do RESEARCH before making an all important decision such as voting!!!

Now, anyone that watches the David Letterman show would KNOW this is falsely written to begin with, but it still brings to mind some rebuttal issues:

He supposedly wrote: Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week? –I say: What about the homeless? Or the ones that have been laid off work because of the Republican economy? Do they have electricity? Or food? Or shelter? It’s not because of those that have no desire to work and panhandle on the streets…it’s about those who no longer have jobs because of the state of economy!!

Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? I say: Not ALL people have these luxuries! Look around. Listen to the people, write editorials, talk to the poor who have nothing because of the state in which our ‘rich’ country treats its own people! If you HAVE the privilege of summer cooling and winter heating –a great majority couldn’t afford to have it repaired if it stopped working! Learn how many die in the summer heat or the winter cold for reasons such as not having a job/money/income/assistance.

Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? I say: Is their job and income efficient and enough to pay the exorbitant cost of living? While the government spends our money on the wrong war? Or feeds the rich with higher wages or corruption in corporate offices [remember the trillion dollar bail-out?]. Refer to those who have to have two jobs with BOTH parents working to make ends meet!! Do foreclosures come to mind?

Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state. I say: Have you traveled by car from one state line to the next? On the interstate when I’ve traveled, how many ‘in state’ autos are pulled over by patrol cars? They’re mostly from ‘out of state’. Also, I’ve seen and witnessed plain ordinary citizens of this country that are of minorities being pulled over and beaten for no reason, other than they’re different!!!

Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I say: Give me a break! The ones that the minority can afford for shelter are NOT clean, nor are they safe!! Ones that ARE safe and clean are above the travel budgets for many!! The ones that are more ‘affordable’ are crack houses and prostitute hang-outs. It’s safer sleeping under the stars!!

Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital. I say: Ummmmm, I’ve had emergency services before…many times. Our grandson has also…One in particular was a helicopter to the Children’s hospital to save his life when his heart failed and our daughter brought him back with CPR….the cost? Let me just say, nearly ONE MILLION dollars before it was over. Insurance coverage? Some…but the CEOs decided differently. Complaining? Yes. Still today. Remember Katrina? Ike? Dolly? Even farther in history…Andrew, Carol, and other national emergencies? FEMA come to mind? Oh and by the way, if you DO have a wreck…the insurance premiums go up to the point you either have to do away with most of your coverage, just to afford it again. It’s all about ‘big bucks’ and profits with the Republican Party.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. I say: For the last year or more it’s become almost impossible to HANG ON To YOUR Possession!! Foreclosures, banks going under…bankruptcy filings to an all time high!! That 70% may be the privileged ones, but my estimation is HALF of that 70% is struggling to pay the mortgage or heat their home, or make necessary repairs! Go to the ‘poor side of your town’ and take a sad look at the disrepair of their one and only possession. Or look at your neighbor who just lost their jobs because of the Bush Administration and deregulation…their homes will be having a ‘for sale’ sign, or will be repossessed by a loan company. Or sadly they’ll just LEAVE and not come back.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. I say: I’m laughing, period! I have a right to bear arms! If the intruder comes to my home…I’ll shoot on sight! We DO have an alarm system in our home. Yes, I’m one of those guys, if you look at it from that perspective. But wait….we DID have a break in. And the alarm went off! The call from the alarm company didn’t come ’til after 15 minutes!!! WE ended up calling the police! The patrol car showed up late!! Ummmm, scary to think our tax dollars protect us in time of need?!! It depends on how ‘lucky or unlucky you are’.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? I say: Issues like pro-life/pro-choice, Muslim, anti-American candidates? Not to mention “paling around with terrorists” slogan used by Ms. Palin against Obama? Ya…WE DO have these freedoms, and they should not be in rallies. Rallies should consist of what the candidate will do for the American people…not incite riotous actions of the followers…that is NOT leading a country!! Oh and by the way? If, as stated in the constitution, the government should not control religious freedoms and social freedoms…why then is there an issue with abortion rights and religion in the schools and government offices? If we should be so bold to say this to our countrymen who ‘lead’ us —IF! there is a stipulation that we should not be controlled by religious beliefs then….why not have Congress open year ’round? OR! —Christmas should not be considered a holiday with government closed?!!! Religion and abortion should be a FREEDOM, and individual choice, not governed.

He also was falsely accused of stating: Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy. Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don’t have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here. And it’s the media’s fault. I say: I’ve heard and read enough to realize that we are NOT the best country to others, that they’re happy where they are! This false urban legend statement makes it sound like EVERYONE wants to be Americans!! I don’t think so. Look at how many left our country? Because they found out that it isn’t all honey and gold. Sure, don’t WATCH TV or listen to news or read paper/magazines…just get out and drive around your town or city…you can witness crimes/thefts/poor neighborhoods!!

And lastly the legend states that he asked: So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69% of Americans? I say: We, as citizens, have been manipulated too long by a corrupt government, the Republican Party. We need to be discontent and disconnect ourselves; for a change in economics. Yes, I’m one privileged fellow citizen that doesn’t have to struggle. YET!! Times have been rough and money has been tight throughout our marriage. But we still have comforts. We’ve not bought things [BIG expenses that is] on a whim, ever. We still live under a roof. Cost of living goes up tho…and yet instead of ‘giving to those in need’…the government spends trillions of dollars for a bail-out, and then the CEOs of those companies party to the price tag of thousands upon thousands of those very dollars? We, as a majority, ARE pissed! [My sister is Republican, and she's wholly P O'd with the bail out also, it's not just Democrats...it's Republicans and Independents also on this issue.] We have been treated unfairly! We have been blindsided by corruption. We have been mistreated by our own government. Sure we have the two cars…or the home…or the boat….or the expensive trips….or a filled refrigerator. But we [Bud and I] worked for over 45 years, combined, for that privilege. We also see strife with two parents working to make ends meet. We also see parents saddened because they have to dip into their savings of a child’s dream of a better education in years to come —only because the costs go up and up. Losing jobs, losing homes, trying to pay mortgages, trying to keep food on the table. Trying to replenish costly fuel for their vehicles to even GET to work for their wages. Sure we don’t need a lot of luxuries, but we DO NEED the essentials and it’s getting harder to come by…we as citizens of a whole nation HAVE [in general...I don't use credit cards ---I don't believe in credit...if you can't pay for it ===in my opinion===, don't buy it!!] seen the American dream go down the drain in recent months…tho it’s been building to the climax for nearly a decade. It’s a domino effect people…..we have a RIGHT to complain and seem self-centered or spoiled. America. The land of that freedom!!!

Socialism vs. Capitalism

Many of us, I think, don’t realize just what socialism is by the basis of fear shouted to us in recent days, by the Republican Party and what is being chanted against Obama. Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production. Under capitalism, individuals, companies or corporations invest in, own, and share in profits (or losses) of the entities that produce goods, distribute products or provide services. Here again, it’s like all the big oil companies & insurance big whigs naming a few, Exxon and AIG, not to mention large banks and other insurance companies that were just bailed out…their means of capitalizing on HUGE profits…greed. Based on the now capitalistic white house administration’s deregulation bill and much more. While on the other hand, a social system [socialism] is one which favors collective ownership of the means of economic production and distribution….sharing profits such as Obama has stated regarding the bail-out if he were elected…giving BACK to the people who’s tax money is being spent to save the economy and the greediness of CEOs and the like that Republicans deregulated and multi-billion dollar profits soared! Capitalism is self-centered, individualistic – where socialism is for the people. Has John McCain said anything of the sort? NO!! Oh and by the way, I still say that “Joe the Plumber” was a set up job by the RNC. It’s mind boggling that he is now on the podium with McCain and Palin; isn’t it? Not often does the microphone follow Obama [or McCain for that matter] AFTER their rally speeches. Hmmmmmmm. Amazing how one camera and microphone happened to be there at the right time when Joe the Plumber asked Obama to explain his tax breaks! AND to top it all off, the Mr. Joe Q. Plumber isn’t even a LICENSED plumber and owes back taxes!! The American Dream is to be a citizen and share in the wealth. NOT steal from the poor and give to the rich. We’ve been ripped off by the GOP…it’s time for a change—

I’ve been waiting until February of this year to show these special bottles!! They’re special in a way that they’re Bud’s and they’re copyrighted!!! No, he didn’t copyright them himself, they’re copyrighted by JIM BEAM Whiskey. ©1964!! The one photo shows the bottom of the whiskey bottles [by the way they are empty...been emptied for years! LOL] that they are NOT to be sold or reused under Federal Law Protection. Under James Beam Distilling Company, 1964. These bottles are of American Political Parties, the Donkey [Democrats] and the Elephant [Republicans]. Decorating our home for the day.

One more little cutie for the Election Day—isn’t this cute? It’s a Pez Dispenser. Donkey, of course!!! I have him opened now, and sitting out of the package, on the hutch.

“SILENCE!!!!—— I ….”

I was still recouping from last Friday Night on Sunday!! The Jeff Dunham show actually began on time [usually when we attend these 'concerts' they make us wait, but not this one]. The bank center where the event was being held was packed. We had pretty good seats, but not front row. By the time I got into ticketmaster, the front rows were taken already. But we had section B, floor, row two and seats 12 and 13 near the stage. And luck was on my side, we had no one to the left of us…so, we were very comfortable. Believe me when I say it was elbow to elbow. It was like squirming sardines, packed so close.

And loud. But, don’t get me wrong, I love loud when it comes to having fun. And this was fun! So much fun that I ached halfway through the show. I haven’t laughed this hard and this long for soooooooo long. And the concert lasted hours! It started shortly after 8 and went to about 11:30/11:45!! When we got home afterward, we were tired. No, Exhausted— But, truthfully, it was a good exhaustion [I'll be trying for days now to get back to normal].

First, the Guitar Guy. If you follow Jeff Dunham, you know now that Achmed sings with the Guitar Guy. Brian Haner. He and Achmed sing a version of a Christmas song “Jingle Bombs”. Well, at eight, on stage comes Brian. And he can really play the guitar. He had me so hyped up. He actually played a Guns and Roses…’Sweet Child of Mine’. Loud enough to probably break a few eardrums…but wow!!! And his comedy routine while playing was a hoot!!! He entertained us and played his guitar about 20 to 30 minutes. About a ten minute break then before the star Walter, Achmed, JEFF comes on stage. Okay…Bud and I go out and get a beer. Nice and cold and icy. It hit the spot.

…back to our seats! Lights dim…anticipation of an hour of gut splitting laughter ahead!!

On stage comes Jeff! He does a new stand up routine about his three teen-aged daughters. That was very funny. A short synopsis you want? Well, if you have a daughter, you know what he’s talking about….boobs appearing, dating, cars. He described how ‘evil’ his wife was while he was out on the road with his show…they bought their daughter an used car for her 16th birthday. Wife tapes a lot of the girls’ lives for Jeff since he’s on tour a lot. The car…daughter pumping gas for the first time…wife videotaping…Jeff telling us the whole spiel! Funny!!! He then, gets us riled —and to our delight, out comes Walter!!!

Then…

He’s such a grumpy ol’ man, you just gotta love the guy! Walter has been around a long time and knows all about life! You just can’t disagree with his attitude! He’s right on. His way of thinking is just too good. And so often his statements make you just say “YA!!! You’re so right Walter!” “Way to go!” “More, more!!!” His routine was quite eloquent if I may say so. I loved the part where he tells Jeff that he has suspicions of the fact that Jeff needs to be watched. The reason, he has been to his house and he has seen all the shooting missiles. All encased. [remember three daughters and a wife at home!] And that they have to be missiles!!! He has seen the tiny fuse [the string] on each and every one of them!!! [of course if you'd been there, you'd know that he was talking about the use of tampons...all over the house! Guess you had to be there....

On to my favorite---

Walter goes back into his beloved trunk, and on stage comes my most favorite. The unbelievably appealing dead terrorist....Achmed!! I yelled, stood up, and whistled to his entry! I just love the guy. Did I say he's adorable? Yes indeedy, he IS!! And with the 'new' routine -that Jeff informed us all will be shown on Comedy Central during the holiday months on cable- it'll be about the holidays of course. And to my ultimate delight, Achmed had his Santa hat on. You see, he's a terrorist that has remained 'alive' but botched his mission....he is so funny!! I laughed and laughed. Some new, some of the more usual routine, but all so refreshing to see them 'live and in person'!!!! Of course by the end of this segment, which ran about 40 minutes maybe...Achmed calls for the Guitar Guy, and sings his ever so popular Jingle Bombs!! [to the tune of Jingle Bells] I’ve seen and listened to this song for so long, I can mouth the words, I love it that much—

    Dashing through the sand
with a bomb strapped to my back.
    I have a nasty plan
    for Christmas in Iraq.

    I got through checkpoint A,
    but not through checkpoint B.
That’s when I got shot in the ass
    by the US Military…

    Oooh, jingle bombs, jingle bombs
    Mine blew up you see.
    Where are all the virgins
    that Bin Laden promised me?

    Oooh, jingle bombs, jingle bombs
    U.S. soldiers shot me dead.
The only thing that I have left
is this towel up on my head.

I used to be a man,
    but every time I cough,
    thanks to Uncle Sam,
    my nuts keep falling off.

    My bombing days are done.
I need to find some work.
Perhaps it would be much safer
as a convenient store night clerk.

    Oooh, jingle bombs, jingle bombs
    I think I got screwed.
Don’t laugh at me because I’m dead
    or I’ll kill you…

[a deep guttural voice now] I KILL-L-L YOUOUOU!

It’s just amazing to actually know that Jeff is doing this…in fact, just a couple of times, I glanced over to see Jeff and his throat moving in rhythm…it boggles the mind how a ventriloquist works his voice like that through tight lips. Amazing. I know, I know…I KNOW that I actually think that Achmed is real!!

After Achmed’s hilarity, out comes Peanut!! Peanut is another favorite. He’s just so hyper, with his ‘act’…you find yourself becoming over zealous yourself. And of course Guitar Man comes out during the skit…more laughs and aching sides. I just didn’t want it to come to an end. I knew the show was getting ready to close, and I remained rivited to my seat….Jeff closed the act. The stage was cleared. Standing ovations and cheers and whistles! “Good Night Corpus Christi!!!” Only to have Jeff come back to more cheers and applause. He boughs, gives his thanks, and then, brings out ………

….Bubba J! After the roaring crowd settles down in their seats, the show continued for a few minutes with Jeff saying he’d do this: Which was the familiar routine with Bubba. And as it commenced, those of us who have watched the Dunham show over and over could give Bubba’s answers from our memory…it was a hoot. And let me tellya, the show began about five minutes after 8 in the evening, and it wasn’t over until after eleven!!! We live just a few miles from the downtown area, about 10 minutes at the slowest time [I can drive home from downtown on a GOOD day with no traffic in 5!]….we didn’t get home until about ten minutes after midnight! The show, tho long, I could have stayed and watched more. It was just marvelous. Funny, laughter, —-the best in comedy!

In Political News:

In Texas, one of many states here in the USA, registered citizens can vote for President and local candidates along with bonds and propositions for the county, early! Here in this state, early voting began October 20th. Bud and I decided that we’d get our voting done and avoid the crowds on November 4th. Ummmmmm, I don’t think so!!! We arrived close to the poll’s opening time, and there was a line already! The two of us ended up, in line, over an hour…it took us about 2 hours Tuesday to get through the line, get recorded on the books/county computer…and vote. But…afterward, we were happy to have it finished!!

Weather update

At last, hurricane season is coming to a close for us here on the Texas coast. The Gulf waters are quite a lot cooler now, much less chance of any storms coming in…at least BIG destructive storms. Altho hurricane season doesn’t officially end until November 30th, as long as the waters stay cool and begin to get a lot colder as the nighttime temps continue to drop lower and lower, so does the chance of storms coming in from the Caribbean.

It’s been the most beautiful few days around here. Cool nights, crisp Autumn mornings, then the sun rises—but, the inferno has subsided! Long gone are the days of 100+ degrees in temps. Highs are now in the low 80s to mid 80s. Nearly perfect for me and Bud. It was such a wonderful day yesterday that we grabbed our books, hopped in the car and drove over the JFK causeway to the island and went to the beach to just laze the day away! [a sloppy lookin' ol' lady dressed in her misshapened tank top...but hey, what'dya expect being on the beach and all? ---a princess? roflmao!] I sat and soaked up the rays, listening to the surf and gulls as I read my book…Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Yep, folks, I’m STILL reading this book. It’s taken me all summer, trust me. I’m on page 800 and something, and yet over three hundred pages remain unread! I’m determined to finish this book! It’s VERY good.

Of course, in time, the beach calls me…I always have the urge to walk along the shore and look for shells, and watch the water fowl. This photo is quite a distance from where we parked the car. Bud stayed and read his book [he's reading something on the famed Jack the Ripper saga], while I strolled…I came upon one lone ‘adult’ sea gull and a brood of babies! I didn’t want to disturb them, the photo is a long shot! They were all soaking up the warm sun too! So cute, and sooooo fat! I gave them wide berth and detoured clear around them so they wouldn’t have to fly off with their mistrust of a human.

As I continued making footprints in the sand, I kept my eye out for ‘the perfect’ shell. Granted this area of beach, called Luby Park, always has a lot of remnants of sand dollars. I am always hoping to find a ‘whole’ one without any breakage. They’re so fragile, and break easily. Then, again, there is foot traffic AND vehicles traversing the beach here…so, you’re lucky to find any unbroken ones. Yesterday was a great day when we arrived. Low tide! Lots of shells. And about a mile out from where we parked, there was one. A very tiny one…but it was whole! Unbroken. Yay, me. They’re good luck you know. [the sand dollar here that I found is only about the size of a U.S. quarter] I treated it like a precious stone as I continued walking. And it did make it home in the afternoon…all completely whole!

Back to the car after about an hour walking and combing the beach. I dropped all my goodies that I found. I also picked up a nice-sized piece of driftwood. And more shells. The wood was heavy and soaked with water…but once it dries out, of course I have my mind in high gear, figuring out what ‘art’ project I can come up with to make use of it. This photo is of a heron just a few feet from our beach chair. I love the sparkling water beyond the bird.

Ahhhhhhhh, it was a perfect day. A lazy, wonderful, relaxing day.

My Sunday Memes below this ‘memorial’ –

In Memory of my favorite actor, Paul Newman. Died of cancer, Friday, at his home. Age 83. With his strong, classically handsome face and piercing blue eyes, Newman was a heartthrob just as likely to play against his looks, becoming a favorite with critics for his convincing portrayals of rebels, tough guys and losers. “I was always a character actor,” he once said. “I just looked like Little Red Riding Hood.” Newman had a soft spot for underdogs in real life, giving tens of millions to charities through his food company and setting up camps for severely ill children. Passionately opposed to the Vietnam War, and in favor of civil rights, he was so famously liberal that he ended up on President Nixon’s “enemies list,” one of the actor’s proudest achievements, he liked to say.

This sunset photo on the Bayfront in the city was taken during the colder winter months. As with all winter sunsets, there are more mauves, purples, and pinks because of the ‘frost and ice’ in the atmosphere. I love the sun’s reflection on the water, peeking through the boats’ mastheads…and the ripple of the mastheads on the calm bay. Anyway, I always thought this would make a super jigsaw puzzle!!! CAN BE ENLARGED & open in a new window for the ‘full’ beauty of it all!

Politics again. I was sent this from the Obama for President, through my email, and I searched and searched for it on CNN’s website but was unable to find it. So I did a view source from my email and found the embedded code and wanted to share it here. For reasons of a grand uncertainty in our country and that has escalated world wide. The Wall Street Financial Crisis….

I’m wondering secretly just why McCain would even think of ‘bowing out’ on the campaigning for election because of all the hoopla and dire straits of the country’s and global crisis. Is he really needed to make the difference in Wall Street? Or is he more interested in he himself losing his invested gains in turn making the ignorant think he’s ‘for the people’? Question is: Do not the American voters AND the world leaders have a right to know just WHAT, as president, how both would handle not just this, but OTHER crises or country security or what’s in it as a whole for the next four years? What they would do? How the situation[s] would be handled. Mr. Obama’s press conference impressed me. Once again, he seems to be executive material. His words were promising…but of course, I must also say to myself: talk is cheap. Thing is…all the promises [on both parties, Republican and Democrat] has to go through congress for approval and in doing so, it may not be what you think it will be for our future.

Again, my very first thought of this [and Bud and I, years ago, predicted a fall-out crisis in the country's financial situation sooner or later; what with the housing costs skyrocketing and then insuring those 'expensive homes' in hopes of selling at a profit --or gasoline and fuel because of labor unions wanting more pay for less work...or oil companies' execs actually 'running the country' and price gouging...another Great Depression in the works] “Why should the American taxpayers flip the bill and bail the CEO and financial gurus out when the thing is –AIG -a huge insurance company- wants Americans to help them out”, when I hear things like “Allstate isn’t going to cover our damages from Katrina, Rita, and now Ike because it’s ‘An act of God’ or ‘This isn’t considered ‘living space’ because a garage-storage area holding washers, dryers, refrigerators, office supplies, etc. etc. was uplifted and blown apart with damage that was catastrophic, you don’t actually live in the area of the home”. Also, wind insurance along the coast of our great country is plain, downright, unaffordable to more than 90% of the population, so by no means do they, the home owners or apartment dwellers, have a satisfactory gut feeling when they watch storms off the coast heading their way.

Also, in my mind anymore, just plain and simple…”Why have insurance?” FEMA is no good. Insurance doesn’t pay. Banks are closing. Where do we go and what do we do? Again, why bail them out with OUR money? I LIKE WHAT OBAMA SAID IN HIS SPEECH!! He said in so many words, if the citizens bail out Wall Street, they will be treated as investors and get their money back. Sounds good on paper…but I still have doubts that congress would approve of such a burdensome atrocity of actually considering the tax payer. I’m compelled to ask this also: “Who has more knowledge of the American ‘commoner’? McCain? Who owns more homes than he can recall? Or Obama who has had to live as the ‘poor folk’, struggling through the years?” John McCain may have more knowledge of military and diplomatic stance, but we as citizens of a growing poorer by the minute nation, need someone who knows more of economic crises, and is willing to talk to us and guide us through ALL situations, not just ‘war’ securities. Obama is for those who WORK and strive for a living, not how we can make the rich richer and forget the majority of us who have an American Dream…It’s his word that I stand by….

Also, my point on why do we buy insurance? Doling our monthly premiums for decades and not getting anything back when we actually need it? Why not just [if god forbid] there is damage to the house –why not just have the work done from a bidder/contractor up until you can finish yourself, and charge it —then make the ‘premium’ payments for TWO years instead of a lifetime like you’d have to do for insurance policies that are outdated within a year?

After watching the 1st televised debate on Friday night; once McCain decided he’d better show along with Obama….Obama said when he found out that McCain wanted to postpone or even step AWAY from the Friday night’s debate, because of the issue on Wall Street, that “We [meaning McCain or himself] as president, must be able to multi-task. Not step down from one crisis to avoid or ignore another.” But, the debate went on. And as I watched and nearing the end of the session, I felt that Obama was much stronger. McCain actually worked in circles, not even answering the questions given to them to respond to…He started out answering then, before his two minutes were up, he’d be telling the country just ‘who he knew here, who he knew there’…but evading on the issue of what he’d DO as president! We MUST move forward, not live off memories of what it was years ago. We are to LEARN by the mistakes of this country’s leaderships yes, but not relive it!! Anyway, the debate is shown in its entirety [in three parts] on my campaign blog which you’ll find the link on my sidebar. And afterward, I stayed around to see the reaction and watch the entailed polls skyrocket toward the favor of Obama!!!

NOTE: My friend P J? Who lives near Galveston Island…the one that evacuated from Ike to return —and the Prayer Circle I started here, remember? Well she has added some photos of what they found when they returned to their home last week. Go and say hi to her….Tell her Anni sent you! She’d appreciate it, I’m sure!!!!!!

Just cleaning out my drawers ummmm, err, photo file. So, thought instead of just deletin’ ‘em, I’d make a Thursday Thirteen from them for this week, then to file 13 they go [hmmmmm, coinky-dink don't you think? File 13 being 'trashing' them ---and Thursday THIRTEEN?]……

It’s a conglomeration of stuff! All with mouseover captions.

I saw this on the Yah** News headlines today –• Laura Bush: “Palin lacks foreign policy experience”.

- – -

Also, I read another blog yesterday [I will not link the blog since it's not my intent to debate the issue - but I will say it was a blog of one of my commentors yesterday] about McCain-Palin and Obama-Biden tickets. The two aforementioned [McCain and Palin] –American. Then, below that, and photos of Obama and Biden, there was “Kenyan”…Obama is NOT Kenyan. He was born in Hawaii…two years AFTER it became the 50th state! Now this got me to thinking that somewhere I had read that McCain, to some, is NOT ‘natural born American’ either. Which got me up to doing more research on the Constitution’s Presidential Qualifications. Of course, no where in the Constitution does it actually specify what ‘natural born’ means. And there have been a few amendments made since 1868. Perhaps there are qualms on both men! Being that Obama’s father was not American, but yet McCain’s birth certificate states Panama Canal Zone. But see, to me, that he has TWO American parents, and being no doubt a Navy base, would at least entitle John to be declared American by birth. Obama, born in Hawaii, with one parent as an American…would also be American by birth…but neither ‘natural born’ as in Continental USA. —Your guess is as good as mine. This is confusing. But, back to the blog that I visited, Obama is definitely NOT Kenyan, nor is he Muslim. After I read this, and another at Snopes, I think I became MORE confused than before I did a search. I always considered “Natural Born Citizen” to be a birth within the 50 USA states.

From Wikipedia:

“The constitutional wording has left doubts about whether those born on foreign soil are on an equal footing with those whose birth occurred inside the country’s borders, and whether they have the same rights.”[2] Though every president and vice president to date (as of 2008) has either been a citizen at the adoption of the Constitution, or else born in a U.S. state or Washington D.C.,[3] a number of presidential candidates have been born elsewhere.[4]

Barry Goldwater, who ran as the Republican party nominee in 1964, was born in Arizona while it was still a U.S. territory. Although Arizona was not a state, it was a fully organized and incorporated territory of the United States.[5]

George Romney, who ran for the Republican party nomination in 1968, was born in Mexico to U.S. parents. Romney’s grandfather emigrated to Mexico in 1886 with his three wives and children after Utah outlawed polygamy. Romney’s parents retained their U.S. citizenship and returned to the United States in 1912. Romney was 32 years old when he arrived in Michigan.

Al Gore served as Vice President (which has the same constitutional qualifications as President), and was the Democratic party nominee for President in 2000, whilst having nonetheless been born in the District of Columbia.

John McCain, who ran for the Republican party nomination in 2000 and is the Republican nominee in 2008, was born at the Coco Solo U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone to U.S. parents. Although the Panama Canal Zone was not considered to be part of the United States,[6] federal law states: “Any person born in the Canal Zone on or after February 26, 1904, and whether before or after the effective date of this chapter, whose father or mother or both at the time of the birth of such person was or is a citizen of the United States, is declared to be a citizen of the United States.”[7] The law that conferred this status took effect on August 4, 1937, one year after John McCain was born — albeit with retroactive effect, resulting in McCain being declared a U.S. citizen.[8] However, the question as to whether or not he is a citizen from birth cannot be answered by this law because (1) it took effect after his birth and (2) it does not state that the person’s citizenship was acquired at birth, only that they are a citizen by means of the law’s establishment (and, hence, at the time the law takes effect). Indeed, the law in 1936 stated that all persons born to two US citizen parents outside the “limits and jurisdictions of the United States” are citizens at birth. The status of Mr. McCain’s citizenship at birth nonetheless remains questiond by some.[9

Hmmmm, box, huh? Okay, let me add a ballot box for questions you’ve always wanted to ask Hootin’ Anni but were afraid to ask. Do you have something on your mind that you would like me to answer of a personal aspect? If so…the box is ready to accept your questions.

- – -

Then, looking on the ‘net for ballot boxes I typed in a search and the new Firefox browser begins to list things that are linked as I type…and what caught my eye, naturally, I had to click on the link to find out about it. It’s a pub. In England. And it’s called the Ballot Box Pub! Hmmmmm, interesting.

…and by what I read about the pub, it’s quite a great place for fun, beer and food. Every day, two meals for the price of one. Wow…that’s a selling point right there, for me. I think I’d enjoy the ambiance and the whole concept. Besides, it’s in England! You can’t go wrong. I’m bloody right, right?!! Their website states: “The building is olde worlde and has a dark wood traditional interior with oak panels. We offer a quiet place for customers to relax with a pint or meal. The pub’s locals bar has a big screen showing popular sporting events. The 115 seater restaurant has a good varied menu with something to suit the whole family. The Two for One deal lets two adults order two adult main meals and get the cheapest one free. You can complement your meal with a choice of drinks and a quality pint can be found at the bar.”

Then, last but not least, different ballot boxes used in America’s history of voting. The photos that follow are from Wikipedia, and all with mouseover dates. Since this is election year for our president, I thought I’d do some searching for how we voted in the past. Oh, and remember the ‘chad’ fiasco in Florida? I ask, was that not electoral fraud at its finest? [my opinion]

My blog…my opinion!

I was visiting with Mary at The Work of a Poet, and I clicked the link being that I was very compelled at what her statement showed! An entry that was inspirational for me! The petition had statements that shouted to me in all its truths.

Letters to the Senator

DOING MORE RESEARCH –[my way to be educated, for myself, in all parties!]

Many times during this time in our country, lies and innuendos of lies given are stipulated in speeches, etc. Reading into more and more to find out for myself…

While in Alaska, she campaigned as a fiscal conservative, she increased government expenditures over 33%, increased city tax revenues over 38%, and, after inheriting a city with zero debt, left behind a deficit of over $22 million. The country before our president we have now was out of debt…and with him in office the debt has grown into the trillions. I ask myself, ‘do we need another one like him?”
then…this below made me disgruntled…
A little thought came to me also. For weeks the press and the opposing party bickered and bantered over the fact that Barack was NOT patriotic since he didn’t wear an American Flag lapel pin?!!!! [even to the point of having a campaign ad on TV about it!] Well, guess what?——–Neither did Sarah or John—did you see their RNC speeches?
Things I am now aware of, and wasn’t before the RNC [in fact I'd never heard much of her background at all 'til now]….
Another point that shows she is ‘above the laws of God’ in her views is this: She is a member of a church that advocates that gay people need to be cured of their homosexuality in order to be considered acceptable to God [Source - AP Wire Reports]. This, is just not my style, and I’m not sure I’d want the same mentality in the White House either.
My humble opinion, not trying to sway anyone, this is just for me again, my ‘notes’ for reference later in the year….
I don’t think the government should govern our preferences when it comes to sexual preferences. Nor do I think that abortions should be prohibited by law. I try to picture myself as a mother of a 12 or 13 year old daughter who was raped then became pregnant. I would not want to have her keep a child she is carrying because of the violent act committed upon her. Nor do I see a woman of menopause age who is robbed and raped then finds out she is pregnant! Give up the child for adoption? Carry it to full term? Statistics show that a majority of those up for adoption, from rape cases like these mentioned, end up being the American citizens tax burden with Welfare and or prison inmates. Women have gone through suffrage in so many ways in our culture and we have fought for our individual rights…abortion choice IS a right for the individual…not the government’s. Besides, another wave length here —remember prohibition? History shows that liquor was still sold illegally back then. And guess what? That law was abolished. Do you want your daughter or yourself, if the situation arose, to have to go through the back alleys and endanger your life with illegal abortions? Or do you want to ensure your safety to have that choice with professional care and knowledge? Prohibiting abortion is NOT going to stop it!

Before you vote, you need to ask “Not so much who am I for, as who is for me?”

List three things from any category

I guess my ‘category’ is Co-inky-dink.

Hmmmm, this gives me an opportunity to talk about 1a] Yogi Bera’s “Yogisms”. My favorite is Déjà vu all over again. And then, a terminology I learned listening to 1b] Alan Thicke’s comedy routine. His phraseology is “What a co-inky-dink”.

Now being that I have number 1a and 1b; it’s all to get to the subject matter of my ‘list’ of three things entirely; including as one ‘co inky dink’.

Number 2 would be: “Do you ever have a sense of looking at someone and swear you’ve seen the face before? And can’t place a name with the face?” Well, I did – this past week. When the Republican Presidential ‘nominee’ John McCain announced to the nation and to the world this past week who he selected for his running mate in November, I saw the face. And I kept saying “She looks like somebody”. [and I added 'somebody evil' --but in a mocking, satirically, witty way.] And it has been gnawing at my mind for days! Last night, in bed [I seem to think better when I'm wide awake waiting for sleep to come to me, and it doesn't for a while. In the dark, and all's quiet with the outside world.] I kept visualizing her face and trying to connect it to the ‘other’ face. Who IS this other woman with no name? I’ve seen her before. Is it out on the street that I saw her? Is she a tennis player? Is she a movie star? Was she on TV? TV…..hmmmm, YES! The ‘other face’ came to me!!

I think they could very well be twins…or at least sisters. What do you think?

Number 3 [mouseover captions] I think this ties into the two ONES I listed…Déjà vu AND co-inky-dink [coincidence], and my TWO – trying to place a name with the face—

Today my Green Thumb Sunday is photos all set at the macro setting of the camera. I like to experiment….

This is the newest of our plants in our yard. It’s a Strawberries and Cream Crepe Myrtle.

And this is in our front yard. The lavender crepe myrtle in the morning sunglow!

A closeup photo of a marigold that’s blooming in our fern and rose box in the backyard.

And the yellow trumpet bush along the front porch foundation, called Esperanza.

Picture this:

Bud on the phone. He’s been outdoors in the extreme heat trimming a bush. And the sweat is just pouring off of him. He’s got the cell phone in his pocket. Well, the phone call comes in at an opportune time….he stops and takes a break while talking to our son, Erik. But he remains outside, now sitting in the partial shade of the patio. And they talk for over half an hour. And all the time Bud is drenched. I, of course, was concerned he was getting way over heated. There was a warm breeze [ah, heck, it was more a strong gusty wind most of the day...but HOT wind!]. As they talked and Bud laughed often, I knew all the time that the phone really needed a charge. But said nothing to him. All the while I was hoping the conversation would be short and I could take it in the house to plug it in the wall socket.

Talking. Laughing. Joking. Just doing the ‘man thing’. Angelina Jolie came up in the conversation a couple of times. Iron Man was mentioned. Oh ya, as always, politics came into play too.

The conversation finally ended. By this time, I was indoors where it was cooler. Bud was dripping wet with sweating all the time. The phone was oily and sweaty too when he handed it over to me. I wiped it off. Closed it. And tried to shut it off so I could get it charged fully. Well….

It did NOT want to shut off. Several attempts were made. Finally I got the words on the viewer screen “Powering Off”. But it acted odd all along. The charge light came on…about 3 hours it took before its power was fully restored. I unplugged it…pushed the power button, and NOTHING.

At first thought I assumed the battery was no good. I took the battery out and replaced it with the 2nd cell phone’s battery, closed it all up and still NOTHING. Put the main cell phone’s battery in the 2nd cell phone and it worked just fine. Oh goody!! That means the mother board was no good…making the main cell phone absolutely useless.

Down to Verizon I go. They did a lot of testing. All to no avail. It went kaputz!! And since it’s cheaper to upgrade the contract than it is to get the ‘broken’ one fixed. We got a new phone. Yes, I upgraded!! To a camera phone.

Funny thing is, just about two weeks ago, when we were walking on the beach and I carrying the digital with the cell phone in my pocket, I told Bud “We really should get a camera phone, it would be less for me to carry.”

Ha! I think somebody above heard me…..fate!

adult smileysOf course, I let Bud know it was his fault getting the phone all soppy and wet for way too long. That way it was a good excuse and I milked it for all my worth. I think maybe you’d call that using your feminine wiles? Guilt trips can be used to an advantage sometimes, ya know. If you want a new phone, let your man do the talking, and point out that sweating is good for them.

::insert a thought of mine:: “Today, had they survived, my parents would be celebrating their 73rd anniversary!”
