A couple of weeks ago, Mary at Mary’s Writing Nook, tagged me with the Friend Meme Tag. I must admit that it totally slipped my mind…[I HAVE been eating too much fatty foods...guess that explains it...see, fat...greasy, slippery...oh well, if you need it explained to you, it wasn't that funny to begin with, now, was it?]

I’m to write about a friend of mine. Teri, of course, came to mind. She remains living in Colorado, hasn’t moved out of the home she and her hubby bought in the 70′s. Friends, through the years, MaryEllen, Carollynn, Reneé, Sharon, Patty [who is my kids' godmother] Tom, Bob, Tommy, Hank, Frank [died in Viet Nam]…all lifetime friends. Online friends, Mary of course, Melli, Nancy, Erlene, Pea, a whole slew of them…you’re all considered friends. Then, family –yes, they’re the best –Irene, Erik, Bud –my furbabies. Sister and brothers. A favorite aunt of mine…*another Mary. My dad…My mom….

But Teri, my one and only CLOSE school chum, my friend since the early 60s; well that isn’t the friend I’m going to write about. My best friend EVER is long gone from this earth, but she remains so, and continues to guide me from her teachings and I’m still learning from her to this day -in reflection of our past….

She showed me the way to a good, happy healthy lifestyle from the very beginning of time. She confided in me with secrets of her youth that when I heard them from her, I listened with great interest. We were bonding. And we bonded even through the many years after I was married.

When, Bud drove by my home after following me from work one late evening, she was outside and I pointed the him and told her in confidence that someday I’d marry that man. She kept it our own little secret. Why? You wonder? Well, in all reality, Bud finally did ask me to marry him [obviously]; my best friend was told first. But, the secret lies within our ‘friend’ relationship. I asked her to keep this marriage proposal secret until Bud asked permission from my father. Permission for my hand in marriage. Bud wanted my father’s approval first before anyone else knew of it…but my friend knew…and she kept it secret.

There were times when…

We shopped ’til we dropped. And believe it or not, tho she never got a driver’s license, I used to let her drive my car around town. While I was with her. I remember one time driving down a street, nearly in the middle of town, she was behind the wheel….a highway patrol came to the red light, right beside us. My best friend panicked…I told her to “just relax and act like you’ve been driving for years now.” When the light turned green, I looked over to the patrolman, and he smiled, tipped his hat and drove on. The panic never left my friend. She finally pulled off into a parking lot of a Hardee’s restaurant, got out and came around, telling me “You better drive.” We had a good story to share, unknown to anyone, and giggle when we knew what the two of us were talking about and no one else did.

It just went on like this forever. Girl to girl undisclosed happenstances, giggles, cooking fun, teaching each other things like, well……she taught me how to do a chain stitch with crochet hooks, and I went home from her house and began reading up on the new kinds of stitching and taught myself the rest. She was proud of my accomplishments. I ended up making her a pansy flowered afghan on her 60th birthday.

Through the years she remained my confidant, my guidance counselor, my teacher, my best friend. I wouldn’t have traded friends with anyone…she was the best! And you know what? I still listen to her words of wisdom in my mind, tho she is gone. I continue to smile at my memories of her and the fun we had, along with the seriousness of life, tho we continued to enjoy each day we had together in so many ways….

Josephine at AniqueAnik also tagged me. I was more than happy to oblige. Here goes:

1. Do you have a broad sense of humor?
Yes, I think I do. If not, this world of mine would be quite boring!!

2. Is it possible to have a truth without an opinion?
TRUTH be told, if you want my opinion, yes…of course.

3. What amount of money would you shave your head for charity?
If someone were to say to me “If you shave your head, I give any amount of money you’d wish to a worthy charity”. The whole concept would be wonderful…I’d do it in a heartbeat. The monetary issue here isn’t important to me, it’s the giving!! When I get a bad haircut, and I’ve had plenty that I’ve been disappointed with, I’d shave my head in nothing flat. I’d be happy to have no bad hair days for a long, long while! [I almost got my head shaved a few years back, I was able to sit on my hair, and because of the extreme humidity here on the coast, I had it braided and cut off ....gave the lock of hair to cancer charity.]

4. Do you find it easy to be totally honest with someone even though it might hurt their feelings?
Oh yes….what’s the use of being dishonest? I’m in total agreement with this. Hurt feelings is one thing, but honesty is the best policy. Hurt feelings come and go…life is cruel sometimes, we need to accept that. It’s not all bubble gum and fun, nor innocent.

5. When people you know are laughing to themselves while reading, do you ask them to share what is funny?

Sure!! I want in on the fun.

6. What stresses you out the most?
A loved one being stressed. Yep, that stresses me.

7. Could you go one full day without speaking?
Ummmmmmm, no. I think not.

8. Would you rather ask the question or answer it?

Probably ask. I tend to hem and haw when asked something.

9. What is the one thing that always makes you smile?
Hearing our cats snore! It just cracks me up.

10. Do you trust in love?
Most definitely. But there are all kinds of love tho…love of a human, love of art, love of life, love of a sport…many many kinds of love.

Today for the prompt for heads or tails the term black or white could very well be taken as offensive. Actually, to an artist, the term black OR white is NOT a color. There is no color. Both are hues. For accenting and shading. Yet, to go with the week’s theme, I chose to take a politically incorrect saying and use it lightly.

- – -
You’ve heard the expression: “That’s mighty white of him”. Tho with today’s society being politically correct and all, it probably can be construed in terms of racist, and unethical. But way back…I really can’t say that I know just what the origin of the expression is. Yet, it was said many a times without it being politically incorrect. At least not with our family. I took the term as being noble, good or worthy. Tho, to be sure I only use it now, here today! Bud was the topic of a meme a few days ago. Now, to be fair, I had him answer the same twenty questions; this is just a phrase out of my past, and it’s not meant to be in any way racist or offensive. But,…..

Participating in the meme? – it was mighty white of him.

Now it’s time for Bud to answer the same questions. It’s his turn to turn. I turned the tables to see just how well he knows me. But I think I know him better…he’s not into the little things. But we’ll give it a go. I’ll recite the questions, and he’ll answer and I’ll type. Bud, type? Ummmmmmmm, no. He never could type worth diddly squat, we’d be here all day…well, I should say he’d be here all day pecking away at the keyboard. And I type his own words, as he answers…

Here goes:

1. She’s sitting in front of the TV; what is on the screen?
Friends and oh wait —:::snapping fingers and the light bulb goes on::: House, I forgot House!
2. You’re out to eat; what kind of dressing does she get on her salad?
Italian
3. What’s one food she doesn’t like?
Rhubarb with sugar. She doesn’t like Rhubarb pie. But she’ll eat the stuff raw. Sour b*stards.
4. You go out to the bar. What does she order?
Margarita – straight up!
5. Where did she go to high school?
Same as mine.
6. What size shoe does she wear?
Six
7. If she was to collect anything, what would it be?
Witches, Santa Clauses, seashells, rocks. And I’ve heard her say how much she likes collecting fat cells.
8. What is her favorite type of sandwich?
Bologna and cheese, fried.
9. What would this person eat every day if she could?
Pepperoni Pizza
10. What is her favorite cereal?
Oatmeal with dried apples and cinnamon
11. What would she never wear?
Cowboy boots with a skirt
12. What is her favorite sports team?
Broncos and the Colorado Rockies
13. Who will she vote for?
Barack, we’re talkin’ Obama Mama here.
14. Who is her best friend?
Teri
15. What is something you do that she wishes you wouldn’t do?
“Just about everything.”
16. How many states has she lived in?
Three. Wait. Four. I forgot Nebraska…then, as I was typing, he said: “Everybody wants to forget Nebraska.”
17. What is her heritage?
Irish
18. You bake her a cake for her birthday; what kind of cake?
German Chocolate
19. Did she play sports in high school?
No….not that I know of…what’d you play? What did you play? Oh ya, baseball.
20. What could she spend hours doing?
That’s easy, emails and blogging! If the computer is down, she’d be crocheting or something like that.

Actually he did amazingly well. I was surprised. Totally surprised. He first off said “Friends” and then….the light bulb went on and knows that I watch House…reruns of House even…when USA has a House Marathon, I’m in there! Love that cantankerous ol’ man [Hugh Laurie that is]. Ummmm, I will eat RAW rhubarb, when it’s tart…but he’s right, I do not like sweetened rhubarb. He even added the ‘straight up’ on the margarita…I don’t order frozen…it’s a waste of money when they charge you $4 to $5 for a margarita and all you get is ice. LOL Favorite sandwich? WRONG!!! It’s been French dip at Jason’s for years! I never laughed so hard when he answered cowboy boots with a skirt….but damn, he’s right on. Oh, and if you were here on the “Hubby” meme, for #15…see? I told you!!! The cake? Nope, wrong -at least partially wrong. It’d be white cake, with NO frosting. But as you know, and as I’ve said many times, neither of us is big on cakes anyway. Altho, he’s right on one part…I do like the coconut, caramel, pecan frosting on a german chocolate cake.] So, to my estimation he did a pretty bang up job. “Bang up job”? That’s probably politically incorrect too.

Then, in honor of Bud, here are three of our “Grim Reapers” for Halloween. The first one I made for him several years ago, when living in Arizona. It stands about two feet tall, it’s a wire tomato plant cage…you know, the kind that you use in your garden to keep the tomato plant protected and more sturdy? I wrapped black poster board around it…added the nasty looking head…made the hat and hat’s crown from cardboard and decorated it all with black feathers, skeletal hands and such, including a celtic chain and amethyst. The materials are purple, black and gray gauze. The hat band has gauze tied and then stripped to hang loosely and make it more ‘creepy’ looking.

These two figurines are resin grim reapers that Bud has added to our collection.

Cassie is hosting this week. And it’s “messy closets”………

I want to see the inside of your closet!! I want to see if your closet is as messy as mine!!! You can’t organize it before you take the picture!!

Well, as you can see by the four photos below, I really don’t care just HOW messy a closet gets. I’m retired, and I only clean them out and straighten things up in there when I no longer can walk in it. That’s why closet doors were invented! To close, and not see the mess! You know, out of sight, out of mind! Years ago, I cleaned and straightened things out weekly. Nope, not any more….living a life is much more important. Besides, if I spent my days cleaning and organizing, I would find no time to blog and visit blogs.

[comment here if you'd like to skip my Memes below]
Mommy Wizdom hosts next week.

Okay! Ummmmmmm, it’s now time to get down, and get dirty nasty get my revenge play this fun meme that I found at Melli’s Sunday morning! It’s all about hubby!—-

1. He’s sitting in front of the TV; what is on the screen?
This season? More than likely CNN’s Situation Room, or baseball, football, or his favorite series on Monday night Sarah Connor’s Chronicles and Wednesdays he’s a Bones fan! Other than those above, he doesn’t watch TV —the TV is on, but he’s asleep in his chair.
2. You’re out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad?
Ranch or if they don’t have it….no salad. Period.
3. What’s one food he doesn’t like?
That’s easy…watermelon.
4. You go out to the bar. What does he order?
Coors light. Hey…he’s Coloradoan by birth! But, if I’m paying the tab, it’d be Michelob. [kidding!]
5. Where did he go to high school?
The same as where I attended, but years ahead of me.
6. What size shoe does he wear?
9.5 EEE
7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be?
Books! [....and he does!]
8. What is his favorite type of sandwich?
Hands down, a BLT
9. What would this person eat every day if he could?
That’s a tough one actually…but, he’s always a sucker for Pecan Shortbread Cookies. If he could get by with that, that’s what he’d live off of.
10. What is his favorite cereal?
Cereal? He don’t do ‘no steenkin’ cereal!’
11. What would he never wear?
A tux probably. He’s most comfortable in a pair of shorts and t-shirt. In the winter, his wardrobe mode around the house is sweat pants.
12. What is his favorite sports team?
Baseball – Diamondbacks Football – [used to be Green Bay]…now, I don’t think he has a favorite any more. I can tell you which team he DOESN’T like and that’s the New England Patriots. LOL
13. Who will he vote for?
Guess! Look around…he’s voting as I am.
14. Who is his best friend?
It’d be me…but his ‘closest friend’ is Tommy. And I admit, Tommy is the sweetest! Thing is, I continually tease both of these grown men calling each other with the ‘y’ at the end…Tom-Tommy. And, Bud-Buddy!! Lord, they’re like two grade schoolers when they get together.
15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn’t do?
Nag him. [kidding]….well, maybe not so much kidding, but that is what he’d say if HE answered the questions.
16. How many states has he lived in?
Colorado, Arizona, Texas.
17. What is his heritage?
I-R-I-S-H [and then somewhere along the line, the heritage got 'tainted' with English from England. ---that would be his maternal side way back.]
18. You bake him a cake for his birthday; what kind of cake?
Is there such a thing as blueberry cake? No? Well, neither of us is ‘into’ cakes. He likes and prefers fruit pies. I’d more than likely have to say NO CAKE and go with blueberry or apple pie. But if it’d HAVE to be cake, then he will eat Pineapple Upside Down Cake once in a while.
19. Did he play sports in high school?
Wrestling
20. What could he spend hours doing?
Ummmmmmmm, see what he collects above. He could and DOES spend hours…reading books.

10. If I were a sound I’d be – a fragile ORIENTAL GLASS WINDCHIME.
11. If I were a feeling I’d be – Well, punk…I feel “LUCKY”.
12. If I were food I’d be – Clint’s [no not my grandson] HOT SALSA; a lot of fiery snap, yet pleasant to the taste buds.

I won! I won! Sherry’s husband drew my name out of the hat for her 100th post giveaway. I’m so darned excited. I love Mondays…don’t you? [insert giggles] Thank you, thank you. I’ll email you the info. Whoa….I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it….

This sunrise photo was taken on Friday, at the White Cap Beach. What with Ike threatening the Texas Coast, this sight reminded me of the devastation yet to come, it was almost like an atomic bomb explosion through the cellphone ‘lens’!!

[if you wish to skip the rest of my Sunday Blog below...COMMENT Here]

We see these tankers coming into port, heavy with crude oil – or leaving the refineries here through the ships’ channel. But when news of one that was stranded out to sea because of no propulsion – in the Gulf – with 22 crew members aboard, and absolutely no way to rescue them because of high winds coming from the hurricane Ike. News that they had to live out the storm was disheartening to say the least. I fear water when it gets above my chin…can you imagine spending a long night aboard a ship that is not with power…through a storm….on sea? Not me!!

First, the attempts during the pre-destruction of Ike and the Coast Guard and volunteers helping people out of harm’s way during the first hours of the storm front elates me to no end. Their courage and human kindness to help those in need makes one feel good to know there ARE people out there, that will risk their lives to save others.

If you follow my blog, you will know that our part of the Gulf was hit by high vicious waves just after dawn on Friday and all day, and early Saturday morning. Warnings were posted through all medias…we even have the high lighted road signs through out the city heading on the streets where there is access to the Gulf…they flashed “Hurricane Ike approaching…fill up your tank…stay off beaches…beaches closed…Seek Shelter….things like that. But still, there are those who think they’re above the laws of nature and take chances…extreme chances. Friday afternoon on Packery Channel…we here lost a 19 year old boy. His body is yet to be found. He was caught out on a jetty, a huge surge came in upon him and washed him to sea. Three others jumped in to try and rescue him…too late, water currents just to vicious. Nineteen.

But, with the sadness of loss there are good stories of rescue also. The tanker, hailing from Cypress and on its way to our port to seek safety from Ike near Galveston/Port O’Connor area…broke down. The ship through the night and the height of the storm somehow stayed afloat, all 22 of the crew did okay, and happy to say that there is now a tugboat, The Rotterdam, hooking up to tow the ‘injured’ ship to shore.

Here’s the rest of the story….

Perhaps sometime today Bud and I will begin to replace all the junk statues, bird feeders, plants, patio chairs, lights, windchimes back out in our yards. At least start. Preparing for storms in the summer has become routine, but it’s still a tiring heavy chore. Especially when the heat index is above 110 degrees. The humidity makes a body tire easily. We’re in the prime of our lives, not young stud/chick any more. Tho, it IS routine, it isn’t something we enjoy doing…not on the list of first choices. But, it’s the price we pay for wanting to be by the beautiful beach. Some have to contend with blizzards in the winter months, some have to contend with earthquakes, others tornadoes…so, it’s one thing or another. Be assured, we’re gonna take our sweet time getting everything back…it’s no big deal. Tomorrow’s another day.

Quotes from the infamous Alien Life Form:

Willie: Stay away from the window, we’ve got a very nosy neighbor – Mrs. Ochmonek.
ALF: Ochmonek? Sounds like a typo.

ALF: A minute and a half, Luckmiester, then I’ll be down on you like a buzzard on a gut wagon.

ALF: Putting humans in charge of the earth, is the cosmic equivalence of letting Eddie Murphy direct.

[the cat Lucky has died and the Tanners are having a funeral for him]
ALF: I’m reminded of a prayer he used to recite every night before going to bed, “And if I die before I wake, chicken-fry me like a steak.”

Brian: You’ll have to chew with your mouth closed tonight, ALF.
ALF: All right, but on my planet, that’s considered very rude. People think you’re hiding something.

Willie: You can’t vote, ALF , you’re not a citizen.
ALF: I’ll apply for a green card.
Willie: That’s only if you want a job.
    ALF: Pass.
    [pause]
ALF: I know, I’ll marry Lynn. Become a citizen, vote, then drop her of like a hot potato.
    Willie: ALF…
ALF: Sure it will be hard on her first. She’ll cry, drink a little too much. Join with a bongo player named Waquine.
    Willie: ALF.
ALF: You’d like Waquine, he doesn’t like beets.
Willie: Neither you or Waquine may marry my daughter and you may not vote.
ALF: Fine. I have not voice in government, Waquine will get deported, and they’ll make him eat beets.
Willie: How many cups of coffee have you had?
    ALF: Forty. Why?

[scroll below "Unnamed Meme" *it's long* for commenting]

When visiting with Diane, she invited anyone who wanted to participate in this meme to do so. I loved her answers. These are a wonderful way of getting to know the person behind the keyboard, don’t you think? Here are mine—

“The Unnamed Meme!”

In your entire life, have you ever…

gone on a blind date? Ya, kinda sorta. I knew the kid in high school, but never talked to him nor dated him. I ended up leaving with him from a dance and we parked! Nothing came of it, the guy was on one ego trip that was bound to no-man’s land! Ewwwwwwww!!!

skipped school? All the time! In my high school years. Now, let me expand on this. At Junior High level, I had all my credits needed to get a high school diploma! EXCEPT, with having electives in Jr. High of all the 4 yrs high school math [I was always and still do excel in Math]—The only thing I needed in my years in high school was the required 4 years of English and History credit. Which I took from 7:30 in the morning ’til 9 a.m. Then, in all technical educational terms for the school district, I was doing fine. Yes, I was a straight “A” [I was a whiz in Science, Math, English, PE, etc. etc.] student–except for Honors History! I barely passed that one…the teacher I had in high school skipped more classes than the students!!! Seriously. He’d show up to take ‘roll call’ and leave, never to be seen for the hour; I soon learned to leave just after he did. I actually learned to hate the man. So, it was boring for me. AND…he ‘threatened’ to fail me, but I had one up on him…I in turn told HIM that I’d report his class absence; with back-up of all the other students. I took some electives the first year, got a part time job that started for me at noon in my sophomore year when I was old enough –the age 16 was the breaking age for being able to work more than 4 hours a day at the time. My Jr. and Sr. years, it was really a ‘goof off’ time for me, other than still working part time and doing my English and History credit classes. A lot of times I didn’t even bother to go to school all day, until May of my graduation year. There just weren’t enough classes that kept my interest. I ended up LOVING English Literature, never missed that class.

watched someone die? I was at my mother’s bedside when she passed! I sometimes find myself going back in time and reliving that day. SAD!

been to Canada? No. Would love to go tho.

been to Mexico? Yes, MANY times. Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Nogales, Rocky Point [where the Sea of Cortez begins and farther south, the Pacific ends], Agua Prieta, Tijuana, Matamoros, Juarez, —all over the ‘border’ sections.

been to Florida? Yes, but I really didn’t care for the area I was driving through. Very marshy, and stinky. If I could chose to go to ‘touristy’ destinations, I’d go back.

been on a plane? Oh yes!!! And I love to fly. Well, I used to. My brother even had his own plane. I have pictures of him with it too…I’ll have to look it up and scan it. I flew with him to Vegas one winter, and we had to fly back through a storm! I even took the controls a couple of times while flying over the flatlands of Colorado. Flown over the Pacific in a jumbo jet…flown many times! Love it!!

been lost? For just a few minutes…”I’m thinking now about the ‘X’ marks the spot, “You are Here!” type thing. But when driving around Houston, even, I can get lost. Thank goodness for cell phones and our son. LOL

been on the opposite side of the country? Yes…from the east coast clear across the Pacific to Hawai’i! From Texas to the Canadian border.

gone to Washington, DC? Yes, several times.

swam in the ocean? Does wading count? Swimming, that’s not important. LOL The Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Gulf of Mexico…wading, yes.

had your booze taken away by the cops? Are you kidding me? No….it, at the time, was well hidden!! Before they got smarter.

lettered in a high school sport? No, but I was part of the Booster Club with letter jacket! [Not a sport participation letter tho!]

cried yourself to sleep? Yes…after deaths in the family, while Irene was going through a rough marriage, while our first grandson had open heart surgery, with pride at our son getting his Master’s Degree…lots of times.

played cops and robbers? Not that I recall, playing DOCTOR was more fun.

played dolls? Yes, I recall a lot of times my neighbor friend, Pat, had Barbie Dolls…in all honesty it was boring, I’d much rather have been out in the street riding my bike or playing ball with the boys!! Climbing trees was more my style.

recently colored with crayons? No

sang Karaoke? Yes. I’m a beer drinkin’ party animal. [NOT!] But, I have attempted it.

paid for a meal with coins only? Not that I can recall.

done something you told yourself you wouldn’t? I’m bloggin’ aren’t I? I said a long time ago…’what’s the point of a blog, anyway?’……..here I am.

cheated on an exam? No.

made prank phone calls? No…well, ya probably. But I can’t recall any right now. If I did, it would have been to a family member. I’m a tease, remember?

laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose? All the time….it happens frequently…what does that tell you? Hmmmmmm.

caught a snowflake on your tongue? Sure, but not in a long time. I live in an area that there is NO snow!!

danced in the rain? Yes….and I love to splash the puddles too! “I don’t wanna grow up!”

written a letter to Santa Claus? Every year!!!!

been kissed under the mistletoe? Sure…probably, but don’t recall who kissed me. Guess it wasn’t a cool stud monkey dude!

watched the sunrise with someone you care about? Almost every weekend…on the beach!!

been arrested? No…but I’ve bailed out my brothers a few times!!!

blown bubbles? Yes….got some now I can play with? Do ya, huh?

gone ice-skating. No…no, and no!!

been skinny dipping outdoors? No….um, if you know me, I’m not a swimmer.

had a nickname? Yes…wanna know it? It’s Goomba. My dad called me that, and my sister even today will call me that sometimes.

been to Africa? No…would I like to? Let’s say back before all the security stuff and the dropped flights and the unrest in the country there, I’d say “Let’s go!”…

eaten cookies for dinner? AFTER dinner, yes. For a meal…no!

been on TV? Yes, interviewed for a local news segment, CNN Obama Rally just this past Spring, and a TV movie extra.

stolen any traffic signs? No…but that is not saying I won’t in the future. I’d still love to have the sign “slippery when wet” above our headboard. [Kidding!!!]

been in a car accident? NO….knock wood.

favorite movie? Still, after nearly 40 years, I never tire of watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Recently tho, it’d have to be National Treasure.

favorite holiday? Halloween really isn’t a ‘holiday’…but I do love the decorations of that day! So, I would say Christmas.

Next week “BAD HAIR

I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours!!!

Tattoo, that is. I designed this on paper since I love tigers and still wanted something a bit more ‘different’. I then took my drawing down to the tattoo artist and asked him if he could put it on my ankle…he said he could. Then copied it onto his image machine and started going at it. It took about 2 1/2 hours. OH….and I was near 50 in age!! [I figured my skin was quite stretched so there shouldn't be too much fading and sagging by the time I'm 70. ROFL!!

[scroll below the ABC meme for commenting]

The alphabet meme, I’ve done one similar a while ago, but this one had a few different subjects so since I really enjoyed reading others who have done the same, I felt I could attempt one for myself. Here goes:

Accent: I have the all American mid-west accent. But I’m slowly pickin’ up a few Texan drawls…y’all!!

Breakfast or no breakfast: Just orange juice during the week, Sundays we go for a huge brunch around 10 or 11 in the morning.

Chore I don’t care for: Balancing the check book! Bud uses it without recording purchases, and then when the statement shows…I’m lost! I do NOT look forward to that chore anytime!

Dog or Cat: Two cats now….they’re easier to take care of. We’ve had dogs galore, and I love ‘em. [I'd still like to have one ---of the miniature breed like Yorkshire Terrier, but the taking care of them and cleaning up the yard after them is not my idea of fun anymore.] Cats…feed ‘em, keep the litter box clean, and the rest they take care of themselves!! And they’re entertaining too. Whoever said they’re independent creatures, I disagree with them…they love to be loved and our two come to us for attention all the time!

Essential Electronics: Microwave. I cook large meals and then divide them into fourths, freeze them then when it comes time to make dinner, I ‘nuke’ them. So easy, and they don’t heat up the kitchen!! Make a tossed salad, and easy as one two three.

Favorite Cologne: NONE!! I’ve always had problems with people wearing heavy perfumes and out in public…I just don’t care for it. Besides, too strong and too closed-in places with many different men and women wearing different scents brings on harsh headaches for me. The clean body is more to my liking!

Gold or Silver: Gold!! I love the richness.

Handbag I carry most often: Again, NONE! I stopped carrying handbags years ago. I go out a lot by myself, and it seemed that when I did and at the time carrying a purse, there were always people coming up to me wanting hand-outs. Around Tucson, and here, there are purse thieves –they even have been known to jump in cars while we women are most vulnerable and rob them, beat them to the point of death sometimes…it’s just not worth carrying a purse these days. I only carry keys, plastic/ID, and cell phone…all in my pockets!!

Insomnia: No…I go to bed at 10, read to 10:30, sleep 6-7 hours and feel refreshed. MOST always. If I sleep more than that, I’m miserable all day long.

Job Title: Retired. And lovin’ it!!

Kids: Two grown adults. Two grandkids.

Living Arrangements: Single family residence. With hubby, two cats. The best time of my life!!

Most Admirable Trait: Probably the color of my eyes. Medium light blue with darker outer blue edge. At least that is what Bud tells me. Oh, he also says I have the most shapely legs ever. But, let’s face it…that is only ONE man’s opinion.

Naughtiest Childhood Behavior: Teasing. I loved to tease my older siblings. And get by with it ’cause I was the youngest. And I still do! Oftentimes I’ll send gag gifts in the mail still today. They all know to expect the unexpected from me.

Overnight hospital stays: Yes…as a child I was in the hospital EVERY winter with pneumonia…spending weeks under a tent for breathing! As an adult, three kinds;, childbirth, operations, heart problems…several in the last few years.

Phobias: Y’all know the Dolly Parton song…”I hate spiders and snakes”? Do ya? Well, believe me, I HATE snakes!! I swear, when I was out walking in the mornings in Arizona daily, I’d see rattlesnakes often. But one day, just as I went around the corner from our neighborhood and to the back of our stone wall/backyard, there were two huge diamondbacks….I was ready to move out, right there, right then! Oh and deep water/ iron bridges…which all stems to my childhood almost drowning experience. [after telling these incidents, it reminds me of one time out walking in the desert, and I had a coyote follow me all the way home...down the city streets and all! She stayed about 20 feet behind me all the way!]

Quote: I live by this…always: “I have miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep.” ~Robert Frost [meaning to me, I won't stop living life to the fullest, until I die!]

Reason to smile: These days? I try to smile, period. I’d much prefer to laugh tho! I’ve been a happy person all my life that I can remember. Now-a-days, at my age, the wrinkles around my eyes show laughter lines! Deep laughter lines!

Siblings: Four! One sister, three brothers [two living - one deceased] – all older than I.

Time I wake up: Depends. I have no schedule, so I wake up when I wake up. Usually around 4:30, 5:00 or 5:30 a.m. I love the quiet times when the rest of the world is still asleep and all’s still.

Unusual Talent or Skill: Ha!! That’s a loaded one…I’m not gonna touch this one. I’ve been told I’m admired for my artistic talents…but I have to say, there are others with MORE talent than I. So, no…I’m gonna refrain from listing anything. Everyone has admirable talents, it’s all in one’s mind actually.

Vegetable I Refuse to Eat: I try anything once…and I won’t ever have okra again!

Worst Habit: These days? Procrastinating. I don’t jump up and do something right away anymore, then, I have a double chore because I put it off too long.

X-rays: Teeth, Chest, broken fingers, sonograms, mamograms …ya, lots.

Yummy Stuff: As in food? Still…after all these years, brownies with pecans….but, with life in general? Watching baseball or going to a ballpark and just sitting, viewing the fun the small kids have [yes, that's yummy eye candy and makes my heart full of joy.] Food again? Bad unhealthy foods…yummy!! Then, as in ‘yummy’ nature? I’d consider sunrises yummy too. The phenomenon has never been a boring aspect. To witness the colors, the rays stretching out above the horizon…awesome, even on a cloudless day. It’s like yummy nectar in my line of vision.

Zoo Animal I Like Most: Without a doubt T I G E R S!!!

edition #54

I found this at Junie Rose and after I read her answers, I thought “What fun”. So, my turn, my turn!!!! And I’ll turn this into my Thursday blogging [I noticed while copying from her blog that there was no number twelve with the original "14" names....so with the omitting of that number 14 turns into thirteen[!] items on the meme, and it works perfectly for a Thursday Thirteen then!!! Either case, I bet y’all just can’t wait, right?!!

The Name Game

Your rock star name (first pet, current car)
Persian Pontiac
[sounds erotic to me!]

Your gangsta name (favorite ice cream flavor, favorite type of shoe)
Black Walnut Sandals
[sandals, not SCANdals!!!]

Your Native American name (favorite color, favorite animal)
Purple Tiger
[me thinks this is more Oriental sounding]

Your soap opera name (middle name, city where you were born)
F Lincoln
[you think I'm gonna write out my middle name? Besides, the first letter is the "in" thing to do now-a-days P Daddy and R Kelly]

Your Star Wars name (the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 of your first name)
Son-An
[again, more Oriental sounding...I think maybe I should have been in the movie Karate Kid or something]

Superhero name (2nd favorite color, favorite drink)
Forest Green Water
[ewwwwwww, that sounds slimy!!]

NASCAR name (the first names of your grandfathers)
Edward Henry or Henry Edward
[sounds like a winner, either way!!]

Stripper name (the name of your favorite perfume/cologne/scent, favorite candy)
Chocolate Turtles
[Yes, chocolate may not be a perfume, but it IS a scent and it IS a favorite scent - besides it's fitting for a stripper name I think!]

TV weather anchor name (your 5th grade teacher’s last name, a major city that starts with the same letter)
Robertson Rochester
[...and that's the complete and up to the minute news.....I'm DONE thanks for listening. This is Robertson Rochester, saying Good night!!! :::sign off, fade to black:::]

Spy name (your favorite season/holiday, flower)
Spring Rose
[Ellery Queen, Columbo? Eat your heart out!!]

Cartoon name: (favorite fruit, article of clothing you’re wearing right now)
Raspberry Shorts
[actually to be more specific, my whole name would be 'BLACK RASPBERRY SHORTS']

Hippie name (what you ate for breakfast, your favorite tree)
O. J. Willow
[cousin to Mr. Simpson...as in O.J., not Homer!]

Porn star name (first pet, first street where you lived)
George Spaulding
[I can't help this, I'm not a cross dresser or anything like that...but George it is. Guess it's short for GEORGIANNA, or Georgianni in my case.] But, George was a PERSIAN cat, so I could get my porn name legally changed to Persian Spaulding. No…I like George -short for Georgianni!!!

PS….Wednesday afternoon, I found a package on my doorstep!! It’s from my Pay if Forward Bloggin’ Buddy….Mary!!! Believe ME —I’m speechless!!!!!

Sunday’s blog entry for me is a busy one!! I have a meme I found at Melli’s, the funny Sunday Snippet, the Unconscious Mutterings, and an award I made for a special friend. And a little note to all three who are my Pay It Forward boogers recipients….So let me get started:

I read Melli’s take on this meme, and after doing it in two parts since it was kinda long…it’s done! That was fun. I loved the photo I got when I typed in my answer for the current mood!!! [to get the rules, click on Melli's link here...it's all there. I confess, I was lazy and forgot there were rules, so didn't copy them]

1. What is your current relationship stat?

[happily married]

2. What is your current mood?

[contented]

3. What is your favorite band/singer?

[Rod Stewart]

4. What is your favorite Movie?

[GWTW]

5. Where do you live?

[Corpus Christi, Texas]

6. Where do you work?

[I don't work]

7. What do you look like?

[Retirement]
**I first read this as “What do you LIKE?] So the above is the answer

Then, the correct question “What do you look like?”…I typed in Grandma & got this:

8. What do you drive?

[red pontiac]

9. What is your favorite TV show?

[Gregory House, M.D.]

10. Describe yourself?

[middle aged bitty]

11. What are you doing today?

[blogging!]

12. What did you do last night?

[movies]

13. What is your name?

[well, duh -Anni!]

I’m finally getting my Pay It Forward packages readied for shipping!! I began looking around for things for each individual and kinda gave up. Even if I read the ladies’ blogs I still really never got a ‘drift’ of what they DON’T like vs. what they DO like. So, I opted to find a little something of the same idea/concept for each. In other words, more or less identical in concept but still different. Besides, I always feel that favoritism works into this, and I don’t want any lady to feel cheated. But they’re now ready to ship…just have to get to the Post Office. That’s the main thing right now. It’s NOT one of my favorite places. Anyway, Jo, Mo, and Jenn —hopefully by the time the month of April is over they’ll be on their way!!! And I truly hope you’ll enjoy the little things I found for you all. Happy Pay It Forward!!! AND—to you three, keep an eye on my sidebar. When the check mark by your name on my pay it forward list turns GREEN, it’s a ‘go’…they’ve been sent!!!

And last but certainly not least:

This is an award I would like to pass onto Mary @ Mary’s Writing Nook! It’s a new award made by me, and I wanted to pass it on first to Mary…we, in my mind, being of kindred spirits. She and I have so much in common and we find more and more familiarities daily. With this Kindred Spirit Award, I try to convey the spirit of friendship. Her generosity and self worth is beyond compare. She is a giving, loving, wife, mother and grandmother. Thanks for being a good blogging friend!!! I want to pass on to others in time [each an individual 'award' -different], but Mary just had to be the first ever to receive one. I had her in mind when I designed this. The intention behind this is not to pass it on by those who receive it…I want it to have a very special, personal distinction, for each individual. It means a lot to me in doing acts of kindness and giving a little of my time, when I can find time[!] to others who are so willing to give of themselves, unconditionally! May your kindness be everlasting Mary!!

BE on the lookout for other recipients soon!!

Next week “GLASS”

This week, it’s high for us. I was thinking of photographing our cannabis plants but that would put me in a lot jeopardy! :::JOKING::: [I can see it now....the feds are reading my blog with Bush's idea of homeland security issues, phone tapping and blog spying, and they're making a mad dash to my front door right now as I type.]

Anyway, I opted for high among the treetop! One morning this week, early, I was out in back and the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. The light of the early morning was shining down on one of our many bougainvillea plants that is slowly coming out of its winter hibernation, and it was pretty to me. Then, when I was checking the photos on the digital memory card, I saw two doves perched high on the Pecan Tree out front that I didn’t notice previously. This is good for the subject “high”, I thought———–

Mary at Mary’s Writing Nook has tagged me for the ABC meme. A challenge to be sure, but fun still the same. Here goes.

A – Attached or single: Very much attached. [right now, to the computer chair!]

B – Best Friend: This sounds self-centered, I know, but I’d have to say myself – only ’cause if I don’t like myself on a particular day, I can’t be friends with anyone near and dear to me. On the other hand, I can say Bud and my cats too, ’cause they take me for what I am and love me unconditionally. So, in all….my best friend[s] would be my household members…my true loves.

C – Cake or pie: Pie!!! Any kind [exception....one, custard], any day!!

D – Day of choice: All seven actually, but gimme MORNINGS of each day.
E – Essential item: Money? Ya, it is essential now a days. Need gas.

F – Favorite color: Rich, deep Purple.

G – Gummi Bears or worms: Ewwwwww, no. Not for me at all.

H – Hometown: Podunk City, Nebraska

I – Indulgence: A bubble bath with candles surrounding the tub & soft music.

J – January or July: Here? In South Texas? Neither. January, too cold and damp, July? Hot and damp and perhaps hurricanes!! I’ll take March and April.

K – Kids: Fun and challenging at the same time.

L – Life is incomplete without: Movie. Okay, that sounds odd, but I love ‘em. I honestly can say I’d be lost without movies. [hey, if I were to say family, I think that's a given...everyone says family is most important!]

M – Marriage date: May 11

N – Number of siblings: 4 [one sister, 3 brothers]
O – Oranges or apples: Yes…Sweet juicy oranges….AND tart juicy apples. Both!!!

P – Phobias or Fears: SNAKES! Bridges. Height, especially above 30 feet [like on a rooftop...I tend to get up there and SIT!!! I freeze.]
Q – Quote: I’ve always liked “Afterall, tomorrow’s another day”….which reminds me of a line taken from the Bible…“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalms 30:5)

R – Reason to smile: A new day!!! A quiet time for me…mornings.

S – Season: Spring! Most definitely.

T – Tag: Price! I’m always checking price tags. LOL [I know y'all want 'tags as in the meme tag, but I don't do that]

U – Unknown fact about me: I sometimes ‘steal’ grapes off the produce shelf and munch ‘em while shopping.

V – Veggies or fruit: If I had my druthers, fruit. One in particular, homegrown, juicy tomatoes!! [yes, they're fruit!!!] But I like all veggies too, except okra.

W – Worst habit: All of ‘em I do…too many to call one ‘worser’ than the other. If they’re bad, they’re worse at the time.
X – X-ray or ultrasound: For what? I associate ultrasound for pregnancies [I know they're used for just about anything these days tho]….so I guess it’d be x-ray…but then, neither if I can help it, and ONE I wouldn’t have because I’m too old for the “PG” word. Which one would be more harmful to the body? X-ray? Okay then…….NEITHER!!!!

Y – Your favorite food: Anything that is bad for me and fattening.

Z – Zodiac: Aquarius! [the only ONE symbol in the zodiac that all others need to survive!! Gotcha! ::singing:: "This is the DAWNing of the age of Aquarius, A QUAR i US, A Quar i us!!!"]

About | Theme: “METAL” | Roll
Next week “high”

Can you guess what this is? Huh, huh? Can you? Awwww, come on, you gotta try. Actually it’s something that is a bit obsolete now-a-days. At least this kind. So, now do you know? Do you need a hint? Well, you’re not gonna get one!!! But……

You’ll get the answer just ’cause I’m feeling generous today!! The metal object is a hand crank pencil sharpener. I don’t use it anymore. LOL —well, on occasion. Hey, I have spell check [And no, I'm blond & I've never used White Out™ on my monitor! I DO know what spell check can do...thing is, how can you correct which one of these to use? Through and threw...the spell check doesn't catch this!!] But, hubby has it hanging on his work bench for his pencils for marking boards and such with sharp pencils. And, ya, I must confess, I use it…rarely; to sharpen my sketching pencils. This one is actually circa 1950′s!! Yep, I had it way back when I was single and sketching on my art pads…I took it with me when I married, and it’s been around since.

Storyteller tagged me for a ‘favorite quotes’ meme. Well, she actually invited anyone who wanted to participate in the meme to go ahead and do this. Well, why not I say? I tried to leave quotations all over her blog comments the other day, but I’m sure that doesn’t suffice the concept, right? Okay. So, as my sidebar states, I love Robert Frost’s poem…and I tend to quote this last line several times in my week, my month, my life. Mind you, my comprehension is not necessarily the ‘right’ way to analyze the quotes –you know, the way teachers in school thought we should? [I always got so frustrated with them telling me "no" that isn't what it means at all...frustrated I tellya!] I was always ‘wrong’ to their knowledge, but I grew from this, I learned that most teaching is just one ‘man’s opinion’ and not automatic fact. And I’ll tell you now, right here…I love quoting quotes. For each and every step in life there is a very meaningful quotation from history……..

I have miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep“.
~Robert Frost
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Now to me, my personal interpretation of this line is that I have a lot of living to do before I go from this earth. To live every day how it was meant to be. Enjoy it to the hilt and look forward to the next day with exuberance no matter how the hours are filled; with smiles AND/OR tears…but live!!!

Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.
Aristotle

And my personal interpretation of this is I’m hopelessly in love with the idea of our marriage. It’s strong, it’s up, it’s down…it’s ours…one single soul of two bodies making it whole.

Diplomacy is the art of saying “Nice doggie” until you can find a rock.
Will Rogers

My thoughts on this one, is just that…thoughts of the rude person; the wolf in sheep’s clothing – the “Nice doggie”, and I think silently about finding a rock! So many people these days makes being diplomatic a true challenge. Then, quoting this line from the infamous Mr. Rogers in my head makes me walk away with a smile, I feel better just thinking and not acting upon my thought. It works every time!! I then find no need for the ‘rock’ OR retaliation!

“Solitary trees, if they grow at all, grow strong.”
Winston Churchill

Here again, I have learned to use this in my life. No, in my thinking, it has nothing to do with living alone… My parents instilled upon us as we grew to be independent, to not expect someone to adhere to our every whim and notion. If we wanted a car when we were teenagers, we all had to go get a paying job and save. If we wanted something to eat at ten at night when all the work was done…make it yourself! And clean up afterwards too. Even something as little as buying a book, we worked for it…tho it was extra household chores to do or what have you…we were NOT given anything unnecessarily!! And their reasoning behind all this teaching was “Depend on no one but yourself.” And all five of us became an independent individual; a stronger solitary tree.

A slobbery kiss
**Awarded by Irene to Anni

I rec’d this in my email. Now to be honest, it says Irene to Anni….I’m thinking it’s my daughter, but I couldn’t tell ’cause it was sent from ‘justsayhi.com’…could it be her? Or someone lurking with the same name? But it DOES sound like her, ‘slobbery kiss’ and all. So, whomever sent it from there, thanks a million!! Whichever Irene it is!! :::shrug:::

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!
from my house to yours….
