This is just a small wooden sign with witch shoes as the pedestals. I found this for a couple of dollars at Kirklands in the mall this month. For as much as I love witches, I thought it would be an appropriate addition to my collection. LOL Hey? You know the saying, if the shoe fits!!! If you enlarge the photo you can see the witch’s shoes -the dowels are the legs.

I just found this this past week on sale at Walgreen’s Drug Store! Naturally, it’s a witch clock! With a haunting graphic in the background of a witch flying across the moon. And the clock’s hands are orange of course. But the nifty thing of it is, it chimes on the hour. After adding the 3 AAA batteries in the back battery encasing, I could set the chimes by pushing and holding it down –in five different intervals. There are four different chimes. But, not all at once…each hour the chime is different. One is a witch cackling, another is wolves howling, and another is distant bongs, while the fourth chime is cats fighting! Awesome!!! And fun.

This is a small resin Victorian style shoe that I found at the Dollar Store [one of many around the city]. I immediately saw “Witch” with it. So, I bought two. Proceeded to take them home and start a little painting project to make them colorful with Halloween colors.

Since the trim was already black, I took orange acrylic and started painting. When they were completed, I thought the orange was just a bit drab and I thought it needed a finishing touch to make them a bit more ‘glossy’. So I grabbed my trusty paint brushes just for craft projects, and took out the gloss finish for acrylic paints. The bottle I have has diamond dust added to it. So, as I brush on the gloss finish, there are also sparce areas that glisten with sparkles….

…and this is one of the finished pieces.

1] You know you’re too old for trick ‘r treating if:

When someone drops a candy bar in your bag, you lose your balance and fall over. When the door opens you yell, “Trick or…” and you can’t remember the rest. You’re the only Power Ranger in the neighborhood with a walker. You ask for high fiber candy only. You get winded from knocking on the door.
2] When Trick ‘r treating, avoid these houses:
Any house whose only entrance goes to the basement. Any house that growls “get out.” Any house that wasn’t there only a minute ago…
3] Trick ‘r treating by your ‘sign’–
Aries pushes the others aside to get to the door first. Taurus will only eat the finest of Swiss chocolates. Gemini goes around the neighborhood once, changes costumes and goes around again. Cancer stays at home and gives candy to the other trick-or-treaters. Leo plans their costume for months, then won’t go out because someone else had the same idea. Virgo wears a neatly-pressed suit and tells everyone they’re a bookkeeper. Libra is still standing in front of the closet trying to decide on a costume. Scorpio isn’t in it for the candy. Sagittarius will manage to wander to the next town. Capricorn makes a list of all the houses that give good candy and the optimal route to take. Aquarius builds their costume out of spare flashlights and spends all night tinkering when it shorts. Pisces skips the whole thing to compose poetry to the Moon.
4] Pun on words: This guy goes to a Halloween party with a girl on his back. “What on earth are you?” asks the host. “I’m a snail,” says the guy. “But… you have a girl on your back,” replies the host. “Yeah, he says, “that’s Michelle!”

5] If on Halloween, the appliances operate by themselves, LEAVE!!

6] Don’t accept candy from the dead!

7] Stay OFF Elm Street!

8] If you completely forget it’s Halloween:

Answer the door dressed as a pilgrim. Stare at the trick-or-treaters for a moment, pretend to be confused, and start flipping through a calendar.
9] What do you call a ghost’s mother and father?
    Transparents!
10] What do you get when you divide the circumference of a jack-o-lantern
by it’s diameter?
    Pumpkin Pi.
11] Why can people near Beethoven’s grave hear all his symphonies being played backwards?
    Because Beethoven is decomposing!
12] Vampire’s Bar
Three vampires walk into a bar.The waitress comes up to them and asks them what they’ll have. The first vampire says, (Transylvanian accent inferred) “I’ll have a glass of O Positive.” The second vampire says, “I’ll have a glass of AB Negative.” The third vampire says, “I’m the designated driver. I’ll just have a glass of plasma.” The waitress turns toward the bartender and yells, “Gimme two bloods and one blood lite!”
13] A man is walking home alone late on Halloween night.
It’s dark, and the streetlights are out. Suddenly, he hears

BUMP!

BUMP!

BUMP!

Behind him. He walks faster, but the sound keeps coming.

BUMP!

BUMP!

BUMP!

Worried he is being followed, he glances behind him and through the darkness, and he can just see an upright coffin.
No one seems to be holding the coffin; it’s just bumping down the street behind him.
The man is scared. He’s sure it’s following him! In an effort to shake it off, her turns a corner. To his relief, the sound stops. He keeps walking but before a minute has passed, he hears the familiar sound behind him again:

BUMP!

BUMP!

BUMP!

He is terrified! He starts to run towards his home, but the faster he runs, the faster the coffin bounces along behind him!

Bumpity BUMP!

Bumpity BUMP!

Bumpity BUMP!

He pushes open his front gate, and runs up the path, fumbling for his keys. The coffin reaches the gate and effortlessly pushes it open. It’s right behind him!!!
Finally his shaking hands manage to unlock his front door. He has no time to slam it behind him; the coffin is right on his heels! He rushes up the stairs, praying the coffin cannot climb after him.

BUMP!

BUMP!

BUMP!

The coffin pauses at the bottom of the stairs. The man breathes a sigh of relief but …

clappity BUMP…

clappity BUMP…

clappity BUMP…

The coffin is now climbing the stairs behind him. He runs to the bathroom perhaps he can lock himself in there! His heart pounds and his lungs hurt with the exertion of running for his life! He has only just latched the bathroom door when …

CRASH!!!

The coffin breaks through the bathroom door!

What can he do? The coffin is nearly upon him! He reaches out for something heavy that he can throw at the coffin, and his hand comes to rest on a large bottle of cough syrup.
Desperately, he throws the cough syrup as hard as he can at the coffin and…

…finally the coffin stops!!

Heads or Tails this week:
Tell a scary story (Real or otherwise)
Here is a short story I published long long ago.  It continues to be on my personal website that was started back in the 90s when there wasn’t such a thing as blogs. I just copied it and pasted it here as it appears on my web site sans the animated graphics of course.
It’s entitled October Moon©
[please, do not steal or copy]
On this October night, I find myself walking
through the country fields, into the forest
entertaining the thoughts of a costume party I am to attend.
My chiffon gown radiates silvery blue in the light
of the autumn moon.
It billows ghostlike with the breeze.
Toting my silken slippers in hand, I walk on.
Through the thin wispy clouds
moonbeams guide me toward the trees.
Ahead, the forest entices.
As my foot falls, the sea of grasses yields
to my step.
With each stride, down-like seeds from the golden blades
beneath me take flight.
From a distance a dog barks, echoing back to me.
Now before me the thicket stands.
Into the woods I cautiously trespass.
A haunting whisper of wind casts a spell.
Blinded by the gloom, I stop.
Something’s lurking within for
the odor of musk I perceive.
As I advance, a faint touch to my shoulder I feel.
Should I continue or should I run and take leave?
I find courage and persevere…deeper into the forest
I know so well.
Convincingly I say to myself
“You know this wood, you’ve been here before.
A hundred times, at least”.
Farther I go forward, heart racing inside.
That touch to my shoulder….imagination or real?
In the pitchy surroundings there’s a snap of a
dried twig behind me.
I twirl around, gulping breath as I find focus.
Through the darkened skeletal branches red, firey, eyes
are piercing my now chilled flesh.
With undescribable fright, I scream! I close my eyes and
hide them from further viewing with my clenched fists.
Again, in haste, I find my footing. I swivel to my left, running.
As I run away, low pine branches scratch and cut my face.
I breathlessly try to leave before I am captured. I glance
over my shoulder. The malevolent eyes…they’ve vanished!
A hidden rock jutting from the dried pine needles and fallen leaves
trips me. I fall to the damp odorous forest floor.
The fragrance of musty,
decaying grasses and leaves permeates, entering my every pore.
From fright, I don’t know, but I lose consciousness,
laying nearly face down on the ground.
Then, for maybe what was hour, or just minutes, I am awakened!
A damp warm cloth is wiping across my scored face, bringing me back to reality.
Slowly opening my eyes, I see through the haze a white creature, with eyes
reflecting red from the night’s dim light at my face! As I labor to rise,
the leaves and dried twigs have a muted sound now, and I watch it run from me.
My muddled senses and quiet thudding of hoofbeats tell me it is a horse….white, and ghostly!
As I find balance, I once again hurriedly
try to escape the heavy and dangerous canopy from above.
I look up for an assurance of the moonlight to guide me.
The glow of the autumn moon is faint. The color of a ripe pumpkin.
A brisk gust of wind hums through the boughs and I am startled.
I feel deep regret of such a venture on such a night.
I pick up my pace, glancing down to the ground.
My bare feet are streaked with small cuts and covered with my own dried blood.
Leaving this retched place, going back home to its warmth would be oh so good.
I continue, inhaling and exhaling with a little more ease with each step out.
Every sound I hear is magnified in my horror.
At one point, I caught myself thinking…this forest, I don’t recall
it being so deep, so vast.
I must leave this wood, get out in the wheat fields, and do it now…
get out…and get out fast!
Minutes pass like hours!
Moonrays from the orange orb overhead grow darker.
The witching hour is near.
Feeling lost and quite abandoned, I cut through the trees
at a fork in the forest’s growth.
Movement of the branches stop…no breeze!
Searching for the way, stillness becomes deafening.
I sit on a jagged stump of a fallen oak. Aching. Tears of exhaustion and
anxieties drop from my eyes onto my muddied chiffon.
From behind me, deeper into the darkness, I hear a spine chilling scream.
No where to go, but run! Run as fast as my achy legs and bloodied feet can
carry me. Out from this terror!
As I run, the woods become blacker. Mist begins to fall around me. Dampness.
I was a lost soul.
I knew not where I was.
Then, voices I hear. Happy voices!
Not far from me.
Again I stand and listen. Yes! I hear them,
just over the hill, somewhere near me.
I step up my cantor and traipse on.
Finally, a clearing in the wood.
The fog of the night, surrounds my soul as I leave
the darkness of the forest.
Listening through the misty grayness of night
the voices again come to my ear.
With each step, laughter & sounds grow clearer and more distinct.
I must be near town, at last heading to the party!
Through the drizzle, they call me.
An iron gate soon appears.
Laughter, human voices. Fun.
As I step through the black gate, figures appear!
At last! I’m safe. In the company of friends!
They know me, for they all call me. Call out my name.
Groups of friends gather ’round.
Their features still not distinct, I feel a warm glow in my heart.
As I begin to retell my tale, some move in closer
to listen, to console me.
Then, it hits me. The smell of dead flesh!
This is no party! I’ve entered a graveyard.
Forms now become visible. Friends? No!
They’re certainly not mine. They’re walking dead!
Reversing my steps, I leave in a rush. Some chase after, beckoning me.
The fields are now damp with moisture. Sticking to me as I run.
The light from the moon has disappeared with the storm.
Black is the night. Thunder rolls in the distance.
What was beauty at dusk, now seems deadly, treacherous.
Blades shredding my chiffon as I run.
I did not know the direction I headed! Just putting distance between me
and the dead, I felt I could survive this.
Lightening flashes closeby. With the iridescent light, I saw a structure.
A house! Within, lights glowed golden through the night, perhaps
with it carrying friendship and guidance homeward.
Each step I take takes great effort. I am tired and want to rest.
I want to be home. Safe on such a haunting evening. Behind my own doors.
Perhaps these fine folk will be able to direct me home.
Flashes of lightning again show me the way. Yet, somehow the storm
quickly subsides. A calmness in the night. Lunar beams reappear.
Exhaustion nearly overcomes me as I step through what was once a
wooden gate. I step nearer. The house glows in the darkened night.
Pumpkin orange as the harvest moon.
I collapse when I reach the delapidated steps to the entry door.
As I fall onto the wooden slats, I realize the apparitions that seem to
float around the house….I look to the moon.
At the top cupola, a faint bluish glow flies through the night air.
I awaken in familiar surroundings. I vaguely remember the happenings, though still lingering. I step from my
bed, searching for clues. My ivory flesh upon my feet are not scarred, nor any evidence of cuts.
My dress made of chiffon, thrown over the chairback is clean and lacking any torn parts.
I search upon my image in the mirror, nothing. Was all this just a dream? Or, did it happen somehow?
Knocking on my door brought me around from my trance.
Mother comes in carrying my silken slippers!
“These were found down by the old graveyard this morning. Dagger, our ol’ mut musta drug them off….”
She says as she drapes them over the victorian bedpost.
Last evening was All Hallow’s Eve,
with an orange October Moon©….

Please…come in…sit a spell.
Our hostess has made it clear that we’re going to celebrate [Halloween or otherwise] today.

All Hallow’s Eve is my Very Bestest time for Autumn!
The house is decorated…
The candy is everywhere…
Both Bud and I make sure we are in top shape for the festivities. [by the way, Bud usually goes as the Hunchback --he does a good 'stooped shouldered geezer'--errrr, ummmm, shuffling guy!]

So,….come into my parlor.
The hot cider is mulled…
The pumpkins are glowing…
The eerie music is playing…

Sit a short while
Upon you, I’ll cast a spell…

Okay, that rendition is done, seriously tho, this is one of the best days of the year for me. Halloween, that is. Since I was a child, we have always had such fun. I remember my first Halloween party I attended as a teenager. Bobbing for apples; games galore. Dancing. Costumes. A particular game comes to mind that I can still recall. And taste, and feel still today! I was chosen to go first. I was blindfolded. And then, helped to go through a line…I’d have to taste a concoction and as I tasted it, swirled it around in my mouth, the one behind the table would describe it. [For instance, grapes...half mushed and bitter sweet...I "WAS EATING the brains of a werewolf" and then down the line of tables came one where I had to put my hand in the goo....it was actually pumpkin seeds and the fibrous strings from cleaning a pumpkin...I recall the smell and the slime!! It was described to me as "The remains of a cadaver intestines!" Oh and one was a cold bowl of cooked spaghetti with something...I can't recall whether it was tomatoes or what, but that was supposed to be worms from a crypt. But all in all, I was voted the one to win the prize, 'cause I guessed correctly on most what they REALLY were. Granted, I did gag a few times. Yet, it was fun! So, so fun. Which prompted me to enjoy it yearly. I have ever since....

This year, once again, I'm the Wicked Witch of South Texas. I have most often been in black, with a black witch's hat. This year, I've confiscated bought a new costume. It's purple velvet with black stringy and rotten nylon layers. And a matching hat! I'll model it for you. Give you a sneak preview; it's me under all that green makeup. I donned it all for Fun Monday. I'll wash it off 'til the 31st...don't wanna scare anyone around town just yet....Don't tell anyone tho, okay?-----

This Creative Blogger award was handed down to me from a dear woman whom I’ve grown to admire. It’s a wonderful gift, and I can honestly say it means a lot to me. Katherine has given a great deal by blogging for us. She has given us strengths in her own words that can carry us beyond the downs and outs of life and give us hope. In so many ways. I thank you.

Katherine was tagged by Charlotte, and I figured I’d do the same…so, I consider myself tagged by Katherine. And, I write about six things I value and six things I don’t place any value on them….

THINGS I VALUE

1. My life. Period. There is nothing more than waking up to sunshine and another day!
2. And with my life, comes my family. My dear husband, Bud, who has been by side for over 40 years. My two children. My grandsons.
3. My abilities. Actually to be more specific, my God-given abilities.
4. My home, and the comforts of it, including what I call my own.
5. My computer. Yes, I place a value on the material thing, it’s a wonderful way that I have made so many friends through the years.
6. My four-legged best friends, and my good neighbors.

THINGS I DO NOT VALUE

1. Dishonest people
2. Corruption – be it business, government, society
3. Those that litter, and do nothing about it.
4. Cheaters and looters.
5. People who do things for others with expectations of something in return.
6. The rich, who think they inherited the earth.

Ironic that I had drafted part of my Halloween treats Sunday blog, giving Merle a treat today…And I read in my comments from yesterday, that the dear Aussie friend has left me a gift also. If you haven’t visited Merle, she’s one of my favorite bloggers! She is just filled with life…and so so up and so positive. She is a darling woman! With receiving this from her, it just made my day so wonderful. I’ll pass it on to the others when I can…in the meantime Merle, thanks so much! I appreciate it. A lot!!!

I received a FANGtastic gift in snail mail some days ago, and I’m just now getting around to posting the photos of what I received. LibertyBelle and I go way back. We’ve been online friends for years. And we both just have so much fun with Halloween. Granted she lives in Denmark and her country is now coming along and she is finding some Halloween things in her shops in her town. Which is so cool. We exchange snail mail cards, and during the month of October, the WHOLE month we send and receive emails and e-cards celebrating what the two of us are; “Witches in Arms”. I’m known as Wytch, and she is known as Levitating! Oh so much fun….

Tak!! You’re my favorite Witch. Trust me.
