Today my Show n Tell is just going to be a bit of an eclectic sort. I’m going to try and catch up on the past week of posting things and sharing things that have taken place for a few days. I’ve been quite preoccupied with what the country has been through and the election that I want to put that all behind me, and get back to a more ‘normal’ blog. If you can understand that.

The day after election I received the gift from Sherry’s Giveaway in which my name was drawn. I would like now to share some photos of what I received.

The doorbell rang Wednesday afternoon, and when I opened the door, the postal carrier left me a box at the doorstep. From the previous email last week, I knew to expect the delivery!

As I pulled out the bubble wrap and the surrounding stuffing, was I surprised or what? A sweet little card from Sherry…with a wonderful note from her to me. Then, I continued to take out some extra special items she included in my prize box.

Along with the Yellow Rose of Texas china cup and saucer, Sherry added to the gift box some assorted teas, crackers, a silver spoon and a butter knife!!! What a treasure I received!! All in one giveaway! And….

It’s so beautiful. It’s so fragile, it’s so perfect! I love it. And I will cherish it. In fact, the very next morning I was having a cup of soothing tea for my breakfast! Thank you so much Sherry!!

Stop by and pay Sherry a visit, won’t you? You can find her astounding blog at Edie Marie’s Attic.

Then, this past week, I received a wonderful surprise award from Kitten! She left in my comments that I’d been awarded this special gift. Thank you so much! It truly made my day. But of course I feel a need to apologize for not getting it up any sooner. The days went by so quickly this past week, I got so far behind. Needless to say your thought was much appreciated! Truly!!! It says “Your Blog is Out of This World”.

And lastly for now, I finally finished the three books in one novel…Atlas Shrugged. The book was astounding! But I’m gonna leave that subject a bit, and go with my choice of books that I picked to read next; the one I began to read in the last couple of days. [But on Monday, I hope to have a book critique finished and posted on Ayn Rand's Book -Atlas Shrugged- So, if you think you'd be interesting in my thoughts on this one fabulous book, drop back on Monday.]

My newest read is:

…”The Life and Trial of An American Slave Trader” Inside the dust cover, it states: “On a frosty day in late February 1862, hundreds gathered to watch the execution of Nathaniel Gordon. Hanging Captain Gordon explores the many compelling issues and circumstances that came together for this one man to pay the price for a crime committed by many; it also portrays the government that turned a blind eye to the horrific enterprise of human trafficking….”

This important and profound history is filled with drama and sharply drawn characters, including the young and aggressive prosecutor who made Gordon his personal demon, the U.S. marshal who did everything in his power to ensure Gordon’s death, the corrupt officials who tried to help him evade punishemt, and the old-guard justices who would bend the law to spare a slave trader.

This vivid account not only sheds light on one of the more shameful aspects of our history but provides a link to similar crimes against humanity…..

This Creative Blogger award was handed down to me from a dear woman whom I’ve grown to admire. It’s a wonderful gift, and I can honestly say it means a lot to me. Katherine has given a great deal by blogging for us. She has given us strengths in her own words that can carry us beyond the downs and outs of life and give us hope. In so many ways. I thank you.

Katherine was tagged by Charlotte, and I figured I’d do the same…so, I consider myself tagged by Katherine. And, I write about six things I value and six things I don’t place any value on them….

THINGS I VALUE

1. My life. Period. There is nothing more than waking up to sunshine and another day!
2. And with my life, comes my family. My dear husband, Bud, who has been by side for over 40 years. My two children. My grandsons.
3. My abilities. Actually to be more specific, my God-given abilities.
4. My home, and the comforts of it, including what I call my own.
5. My computer. Yes, I place a value on the material thing, it’s a wonderful way that I have made so many friends through the years.
6. My four-legged best friends, and my good neighbors.

THINGS I DO NOT VALUE

1. Dishonest people
2. Corruption – be it business, government, society
3. Those that litter, and do nothing about it.
4. Cheaters and looters.
5. People who do things for others with expectations of something in return.
6. The rich, who think they inherited the earth.

I received a FANGtastic gift in snail mail some days ago, and I’m just now getting around to posting the photos of what I received. LibertyBelle and I go way back. We’ve been online friends for years. And we both just have so much fun with Halloween. Granted she lives in Denmark and her country is now coming along and she is finding some Halloween things in her shops in her town. Which is so cool. We exchange snail mail cards, and during the month of October, the WHOLE month we send and receive emails and e-cards celebrating what the two of us are; “Witches in Arms”. I’m known as Wytch, and she is known as Levitating! Oh so much fun….

Tak!! You’re my favorite Witch. Trust me.

There are only a few more days ’til Halloween.
The last of the treats’ll be handed out,

Today’s Heads or Tails Prompt is ‘wire’.

Which brings me to think of wire as in telephone poles, and the cable you see which has hidden wires [photo above is telephone cable]. Most cities now-a-days, during new construction, place the wiring underground. But still in rural areas you can see the poles from where you are and into the horizon. I also think of telegraph. In those days with use of telegraph –it was referred to as sending a ‘wire’…wire a telegram. This also was the means of transferring messages back in the days prior to phones. Did you ever know about the Solar Storm of 1859? September 1st and 2nd to be exact?

On a cloudless morning, Richard Carrington, one of England’s foremost solar astronomers, viewed an amazing event. Tho, for a fact it was just another sunny day for using his telescope. He viewed sunspots. And on this particular day it was different. Mr. Carrington was viewing a huge group of sunspots when he saw two very bright beads of white light appear over the TOP of the sunspots. And the light intensified rapidly. The lights brightened then slowly disappeared. The whole event took only about five minutes….but it was the start of a telegraphic trauma world wide.

The sky world-wide was treated to a spectacular array of red, green and purple auroras, so brilliant were these auroras that one could read the newspaper as if it were daylight. It all happened before dawn on September 2nd. Countries all over the world witnessed this phenomenon….places like Cuba, Jamaica, El Salvador and Hawaii, not to mention European countries.

Spark discharges shocked the telegraph operators and set the telegraph paper on fire! All hurried to disconnect their batteries from the power lines [thick cable filled with MANY wires]. The event now is known as solar flares…this was one of gigantic proportions! Today they’re announced by x-ray…but in Carrington’s day there were no x-ray satellites or radio noise. After exploding on the sun’s surface they are arriving on earth within about 18-24 hours. And, they interfere with our globe’s magnetic field.

In the years since, recording the geomagnetic disturbances, Carrington’s ‘flare’ caused the largest storm! A flare in 1989 caused power lines and long distance cables from operating properly. In 2006, a flare so large was examined by an x-ray imager and it was so intense that it damaged the instrument. Cities in the northern latitudes were afflicted with power outages.

Telescopic view of solar storm — with the auroras mentioned above.

Keep in mind that while you are enjoying your cellphones, laptop computers and GPS systems, remember—the sun has the power to zap them!!!

In the last week or so I’ve had the pleasure of receiving two gifts in snail mail from online friends!! One gift I am going to show today as I opened the box. The 2nd one, I will talk about when it gets closer to Christmas. [the Christmas gift, you know who you are...but, even tho you allowed me to open it early, I want to wait and show it around the holidays!!] I love both gifts! They’re wonderful, and ‘so me’!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

This one gift came from Mary. She’s a doll! And when she emailed me to tell me she found something for me and was sending it…I couldn’t wait! I’m just like a little kid when it comes to packages in the mail! And this package from Mary was so much fun!! Just look at what all I got —

I couldn’t wait to get it opened! I know the saying that good things come in small packages…I just knew it was going to be good! Mary knows me all too well. Oh bubble wrap…COOL! I must confess that she had me going while emailing back and forth. Her one and only clue was part of it was black with green. And she thought of me when she found it [I hoped that meant a good thing]…
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!! Mary, you shouldn’t have! Why, Bud…isn’t this the cutest ever? Bud? Come here! Look at this adorable Halloween witch! Oh boy, oh boy…and it even is musical…oh dear…her eyes glow in the dark and flash!! Cool!! I love Mary! I love Halloween. She’s going to go sit up on the entertainment center with all my others…she’s going to have good company!! Absolutely adorable!! Love her…and love your kindness, friendship, and thoughtfulness dear Mary.
Look at this, look at this! Would ya? Can you believe these? So cool!!! Witch’s gloves. How apropos! For me! The witch lover that I am. Mary…this had to be what you were teasing me with with the clues, right? Black, green, and when you saw them…you thought of me right away!! Yessiree. These ARE so me!! I love ‘em. And they will be donned on my little stubby fingers come Halloween too. But, in the meantime, they’re now draped on top of the entertainment center, right along with my witch collection. [insert a witch's cackle here] Ewwwwww, witch’s gloves! Gotta love it.
The coffee cup…I have quite a collection of cups, and Mary was gracious enough to think of me with this wonderful one. It has [In French - which I took in school for my 2nd language course] I LOVE CANADA!! —Je l’aime, merci beaucoup. C’était une chose très douce à faire pour moi Mary *I love it, thank you very much. It was a very sweet thing to do Mary!* Thank you, thank you once again. I’ve already used it a couple of times for my morning orange juice, and I can’t wait to use it on a winter’s night filled with hot, sweet, hot chocolate. Mmm, mmmm, mmm!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY!!!

Don’t forget…I’ll be showing and telling what I got from a long time dear friend I’ve known online for years! She too knows another one of my ‘passions’. Gosh, do these friends know me well, or what?

Nothing like a beautiful bride…and a beautiful bride gown! I love the Victorian Style of long ago. These two photos [made sepia for today] are of my Grandmother on my Dad’s side of the family. My Dad’s mom. Her wedding day. If I had my druthers I would choose a style of gown like this for my wedding if the ceremony would take place today.

I also clipped the photo to have a closeup of her beauty [to embiggen, click]. At least to me, she was beautiful. I only had a chance to know her for a short while…she died when I was very young, very very young!!

Dear Blog,

I’m using you as my diary for now. Forgive me, but I was quite excited with my gift, and last week I kept track of my progress! For my birthday this year, my daughter (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress; the blogging.

________________________________

MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess – with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Belinda gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

________________________________

TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, I don’t even drink coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then she put weights on it!

My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda’s rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It’s a whole new life for me.

_______________________________

WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.

My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an act of gravity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other sh!t too.

_______________________________

THURSDAY:
Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late – it took me that long to tie my shoes.

Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. She sent another skinny b!tch to find me.

Then, as punishment, she put me on the rowing machine — which I sank.

______________________________

FRIDAY:
I hate that b!tch Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it.

Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.

The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

________________________________

SATURDAY:
Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

________________________________

SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my daughter (the little sh!t) will choose a gift for me that is fun — like a root canal or a hysterectomy.

I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

Irene, the Green Greek, really made my day so filled with sunshine yesterday!! She presented me with this award and posted beautiful words for my benefit! Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate this all.

So, I made a special trip the other day, back to Cracker Barrel. The day before I made the return trip, Bud and I had lunch there. Y’know, one of the reasons I love going there once in a while is for their green beans. They taste so much like my mom’s style green beans…it just makes me happy thinking of the good ol’ days when mom was still with me and her good down home cooking! [Not to mention Cracker Barrel's mashed potatoes!] But it’s the green beans I tellya, nothing else. Okay, so I had my green bean fix for the month, and after we finished lunch we went out front to pay the tab. Of course if you have never been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant, you don’t know…out front they have a General Mercantile Store. Again, it’s like going back in time. Candies, homemade preserves, old fashioned toys, clothing…and a lot can be found in barrels like from Nelson’s Mercantile in the Little House on the Prairie series! It’s all so nostalgic. And each season, they have so many specialties displayed around the little store. And of course, this is my time of year for shopping. I like to shop more for Halloween and Autumn than I do for Christmas. Always have, always will. I guess it’s because I buy for Christmas year ’round. If I find something, say, in May for Irene that I know she’d like I buy it and stash it away for sending to her for Christmas. And I normally have a couple of gifts that need to be shipped overseas for the holidays so, that too is purchased way before December and shipped early for the on time arrival. Also, gift giving for Christmas and our immediate family has never been ‘the thing to do’! It was just more Christmas Eve services and then a big huge family get-together and that’s all.

Well, while waiting for Bud to pay for the lunch ticket, I was perusing all the Halloween and Autumn goodies. I saw a fabulous fiber optic witch…two of them actually. But tho one was only $25 the other I really liked was much too much to spend. Then, walking around the same table, there hanging from the table’s edge, were witch boots! On the same concept as a fireplace stocking for Christmas….and was it ever decorated beautifully. Price? Hmmmmm, kinda expensive. So, I talked myself out of buying it.

Then, later in the afternoon, I began thinking of making one for myself. I knew I could do it. It wouldn’t be difficult. Just make my own pattern from scratch paper and buy some festive material for the ‘holiday’, some ribbon and small seasonal flowers and such. Ya, I’d have one. An original. Made by me. That night I was still contemplating making one. I figured out the cost of things in my head, and then realized that by buying the one already made at Cracker Barrel would be the same price or even less.

Of course, the next day, we were out and about as always and I made an ‘off the beaten path’ trip to return and buy the mass produced boot stocking….I think it was less stressful. LOL It will look perfect on the fireplace hearth! And maybe it’ll encourage a visit from the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!!

I ended up buying a yard of black and a yard of Autumn plaid with some gold ribbon and artificial wheat and Fall flowers, some quilt batting for ‘fullness’, along with a black tassel and such to make one!!

I drew my own boot pattern, tho quite primitive, and pinned it to the black material…

After cutting out the black, I then did the same with the Autumn plaid.

And with the cost of material now-a-days, it DID total to a bit over the cost of the ‘already made one’ I bought for myself. I knew it, I just knew it. Thing is I gave my cabinet sewing machine to Irene a long time ago and kept my portable sewing machine for myself when we retired and was downsizing on possessions. So, with the new dining room table, I don’t want to mar the finish — I’ll have to find a place to set up the portable and sew.

Maybe, I thought, I’ll just stitch it by hand. I have nothing else to do for now, why not? So, I did both….Bud set me up a little portable table and sewing by machine made it go a lot quicker. Anyway, once this is finished, I will ship it to Irene – she TRULY loves to decorate for Halloween!!! More so than I do if that’s possible!

She even goes as far as hanging webbing throughout her home, and those huge spiders from the ceilings and well…ya, she goes ‘all out’. I know she’ll like the Witch’s Boot too. And she loves the ‘country look’ so the Autumn plaid will be great for her place!!

And….

It’s almost finished. I just need to stitch on the tassel for hanging [top left of the photo] And it truly isn’t as professional looking as the store bought! :::shrug::: oh well. It’s the thought that counts, and I know she’ll like it.

Both images of Irene and Clint below, can be enlarged.
Angela, over at The Lurchers is our host this week.

Fun Monday Assignment for 11th August

Show me your favorite photograph and tell me why it’s your favorite. It can be one you’ve taken yourself or one someone else has taken, a snapshot or a more professional image. Is there a story behind it? Do you love it for the memories it gives or just because it’s pleasing to the eye?

    Show me and tell me!

I have several favorites, but two came to mind right away. One is a professional photograph. A portrait of my daughter, Irene. When she was just a mere babe. It’s so special ’cause she looked so regal sitting there on the photographer’s bench. And I was so proud of her, being all mine, y’know? It was her birthday. The outfit, green is one of my favorite colors and with her Irish red-colored hair, I figured this was a perfect outfit for our ‘Colleen’ -our Irish Lass- and I labored over it, sewing it myself for the special day. I do remember, way back then, you had to wait for ‘proofs’ of the photo shoot. Wait for weeks. Well, maybe a week at the most, but it seemed like that week was long, extra long. When all I wanted was to be able to choose the best of the best shots. And once I saw them, it took me OVER a week to make up my mind which one I wanted blown up for a portrait. This, of course, is the one I chose…..

- – -

Then, the other photo I thought of first off when I read the assignment is one I took. It was our grandson’s first birthday. At the age of five months he had open heart surgery, and on his 1st birthday [which surgeon and physicians and pediatricians alike said he'd never see---], he had need of oxygen still – hence the oxygen tube, we were all aglow with the fact we could actually be with him, away from the hospital setting and he’d be at our side! Grandpa Bud [hubby] was holding him ever so gently, on his lap, like he’d break….and Grandpa’s pride along with his tears that day ’cause our Clint survived to his first birthday just melted my heart……

Next week’s hostess?

“You’ve Got Mail”
Those words have a certain ring to it, don’t they?
When I got back home from the grocery store Saturday morning, Bud met me at the door to help unload the sacks from the car. As he walked past the car, I was hanging my car keys up on the handy dandy key holder at the back door on the kitchen wall, he said: “You got a package today just now. And your Jury Duty check arrived. Then, you got an envelope from Germany.” Whoa!!! Taken aback here!! I rushed to get the groceries in and unpack them and get them put away. So I could have my full attention on the good stuff! [Times TWO...not one online friend, but two!! And then, a bit of joke with a county check arriving...]

This was the package. All the way from up North, in Canada! An online buddy [she's become more than that to me...we have connected through snail mail also!] Mary had a post on her blog and she had us guess her secret. She mentioned something that she did for herself. And anyone who commented in her comments would be in the drawing for a personalized gift. Ho boy…gifts!! I do love gifts. And Mary makes hers so personal for the recipient, it is amazing. She’s the sweetest ever.

I open the package “Open – open!” and find this well wrapped something inside the bubble wrap. And the Canadian tape is so tough, trust me…I had to get scissors. I slowly trim away the tape, making sure I’m not cutting into anything, you know…just in case. I heard a ‘tinkling’ and the excitement grew…the inner child came through. It was like Christmas morn. But, did I mention the tape? Okay…so I got part of it cut enough to get it started being unwrapped…

…and as I pulled the bubble wrap away from the object I could see red! A very familiar red…and a well known shape too I might add. She had emailed me to let me know the package was on it’s way to me last week and when to expect it. She also told me it was something that she knows I like a lot. I can now see that she’s right. But still the elation and getting it out of the wrap was priority number one. Did I mention excitement? By that time Bud was standing over me with just as much curiosity as I had, and said: “Mary knows you pretty well, doesn’t she?” And he smiled…grabbing the camera —

Finally, I removed Mary’s gift from the wrapping and was just left speechless. What a prize. Both with the gift and with Mary’s friendship. This just so made me happy. And it’s beautiful. Atop the ceramic bell is perched a beautiful red cardinal. Cardinals I collect, and this special one is just awesome…and the beautiful sound emitted from the bell’s clapper reminds me of a faint breeze and a chime from a distant bell tower. The bell itself has a gorgeous embossing…of leaves, holly leaves. It’s beautiful.

And of course, I made a side trip to the master bedroom…this room is where I have all my cardinals. [Except for the holiday season. I bring them all out for decorating for Christmas] I placed the beautiful cardinal bell by my grandmother’s antique clock. And there it will sit. Daily, as I spend time in the room, I will think of my friend Mary!! Thank you so much dear lady. It’s a treasure. One that will remain forever in my heart and I hold much appreciation for your thoughtfulness and generosity!!

But wait…don’t leave yet! There’s more excitement for me here! Anita. She is my ultimate hero! She gardens. And boy howdy…let me reiterate, she gardens. And how!! Her blog is filled with more beauty than you can imagine. Her photos of all the stunning and the wonderful work she does is like perusing a Home and Garden Show! Each and every time I go to visit with her, I’m just literally blown away with all the splendor. And all the stupendous showing of her crafts…not to mention the symmetry of flower and plant placement! It’s a show case, I tell you – plain and simple. [She sews too, and believe me, her skills with the needle will floor you too!] –It’s all pure radiance.

A few Fridays ago, on her Show N Tell blog, she had once again, some stupendous photographs of her gardening. This particular week, she had sweet peas. Some like I’ve never seen before. And pink poppies! Bud loves sweet peas. We used to have them vining along our fences in Colorado…but none so fine as Anita’s. Well, she also was gracious enough to have a drawing for seeds from that strain of pea. And you guessed, Anita pulled out my name! And along with this, she sent other seeds to me as a bonus!!

I am just so thrilled beyond words Anita!! Inside the envelope were three packets of seeds. The sweet peas that were up for drawing names, and she added some of the pink poppy seeds. And then, to my ultimate surprise she also added a packet of blue Lupine seeds. [I have to add that that is one of my father's favorite flowers] Now, I am very anxious to start planting. I can’t wait. I must prepare a space for my ‘German’ seedling garden…of which when they become beauties like Anita’s, I will always think of how they came across the ocean, heading to Texas, just for me!!

Along with the seed packets, she sent along a sweet note of encouragement and good luck!! It states “Dear Anni – Good luck with the German seeds from my garden.” Once again, I am a happy gardener!

One more, then I’ll let you go. This is just a riot! Two days total…one morning – Monday and then called back on Tuesday morning…and from the county, what do I receive? This —

That’s what I call a ripoff! Approximately 10 hours total of my time. Two and a half days of sitting on my duff, waiting, doing nothing worth while. Not to mention burning about three or four gallons of gas [worth about $13 or so] driving back and forth to the courthouse. Buying my own lunch one day for about $7 at the cafeteria there [which I think we should get a voucher as jurors - but what do I know?] This is ONE reason I don’t want jury duty. Just one of the many. You’ll have to embiggen the image to see what we received for our services. rofl Civic duty or not….it’s a waste of my time in my opinion. And if, god forbid, I needed my peers on the jury, I wouldn’t want someone like me that would NOT want to be there.

So this all sums it up for my weekend gifts.
I appreciate very much so the top two.
But, the last one…why bother? Did I mention I don’t like jury duty? If I want to be ‘involved’ in an enticing courtroom drama, and make nothing for my time and effort, I’d much rather turn on the news from my own living room chair, or even consider watching Judge Judy, or cable’s Court TV.

This week’s theme/prompt is:
HEADS – Any Tom, Dick or Harry

- – -

Okay, the very first person I think of when it comes to these three names are:

First, the British Royal family. Prince Harry. Prince Harry is third in line to the British Throne and the younger son of The Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales.

When I read the name Dick…well, that’s a whole ‘nother concept that I can’t even begin to write about without having Skittles send me to the principal’s office. I’d be in so much trouble telling the HoT participants about all the “Dicks” I know. So, I’ll just not divulge in this name at all. For the sake of being the good girl that I am.

So, that leaves Tom.
I’ve spoken of Tom before. Remember once when I told you about when I was a teenager and used to flirt and flit around all the fraternity houses where I grew up? And the guy who had a red corvette? Well, his name was Tom. I’ll never forget him, nor his looks! As a teen, and hormones flowing ever so much through my veins…well, he WAS A DOLL and I loved his car! Tom. Tom Coleman. One sweet piece of meat a guy! I think it was his car that attracted me to him so much, I truly do. For one thing he was blond. And my personal tastes in guys back then and still today is dark hair! His eyes were blue…I like the dark brown eyes. He was short…I like tall, lean guys. Yep, it musta been the ‘vette!!

Another Tom I think of is an all time favorite of mine when I was younger! I wonder if he’s still around? I best go out to Google and find out. I’ll be right back—-Yep, guess he still IS alive and well! [oops, his brother's name is Dick, let me say I'll call him Richard, 'cause he more than likely wasn't a Dick!...I just never associated his brother with this theme prompt! Of course he was not as impressive as Tom either! That explains that!]

Tom. The comedy team of the Smother’s Brothers!! Oh how I loved to watch these guys! Tom [aka Tommy] was a hoot! Best known for his plaintive, “Mom always liked you best!” and as the slightly slow-witted (on-stage that is), comical half of the Smothers Brothers, Tom Smothers also has had a sporadic solo career as an actor and performer of children’s music. He made his feature film debut sans brother Dick RICHARD Smothers in Get to Know Your Rabbit (1972). A master at Yo-Yo tricks, Smothers made an instructional video, The Yo-Yo Man, in 1988. Ahhhhhhhhh, the “Yo Yo Man”!! How I remember this too. I loved this, it was just such a simple life back then. So many things from the past was more easy on the body and soul…..

Let me see if I can find this on You Tube — Ladies and Gentlemen, I now present a favorite Tom of mine —Tommy Smothers, the Yo Yo Man!!!

Bud and I received a most beautiful gift in the mail Monday afternoon. The doorbell rang and in my hands, I was given a package —

It was from Mary —-

And the card? The card is just absolutely heart warming and so sweet! I love this…

And the wonderful, and very surprising gift was a gorgeous print of my favorite bird. [Bud too...he loves cardinals!]

Mary? You just don’t know the truth behind these words…I speak, the gift was so perfect! It’s like Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal is like Bud and me…So appropriate, so beautiful —and yes, it brought tears to my eyes. I am going to go now and find a frame for this wonderful gift, and find an open spot on our walls so I can see it daily! Thank you, thank you….so so very much!!! Isn’t it perfect? Yes! It is!!!

I love the fact that Blogger has the new little ditty for setting the post times and it’s automatically set up for us now,…a blog a day keeps the funny farm guys in their white coats away you know! You didn’t know? Well, now you do. It’s Mother’s Day out there in the world of blogs —and since it’s our 40th Wedding Anniversary today AND Mother’s Day, I ‘m using the nifty ‘pre scheduled’ feature with Blogger and I’ll share a photo or two of things found around our yard to enhance the landscape. These are the fruits of our labor in keeping up with the gardening and yard work, daily from now ’til October or beyond…

I took this photo in the early morning light. I just like the dramatic effect this has against the wood of the privacy fence. It’s the first opening of the first Canna Lily grouping behind the lower flowering plants.

…and this is a yellow trumpet bush just off our front porch. If you stand at the corner of our porch and look southwest, it’s really colorful as you can see this yellow and look beyond that to the back yard and see the striking contrast of the magenta bougainvillea!

~…end Green Thumb Sunday
[scroll beyond the Muttering section below for commenting]

If I have a quiet moment before Bud gets up on Sunday morning, I’ll try and come in and add the Mutterings over the weekend. If not, I want to wish y’all a happy Mother’s Day.

5:45 AM Yes, it’s true – I’m online ’til Bud wakes up. And I wanted to add this special, sweet gift that Mary gave to the two of us. Isn’t it the sweetest thing? Thanks for thinking of us Mary —and thanks for treating us with such a cute little gift card that you made!
