Dona nobis pacem – grant us peace.

Peace to me is a concept defined by the idealistic state of relationship with an absence of hostilities – be it with individual psyche, or between two or more persons; still, peace can be considered from an international level, that being without conflict and violence.

In times of history you could go back to the Anglos with the use of “pas” which literally means freedom of disorder. Latin, it’s “pax”. The Hebrew translation is “shalom” –safety, welfare; a non-violent lifestyle. Maybe one could consider it to be ‘respect’ or ‘justice’ and goodwill to fellow mankind.

I have experienced in my lifetime, a ‘peace’ of mind which reflects a calm, serene, and meditative approach to my family, my relationships of my family’s members. I have more times than not felt tranquility — an absence of disturbance or agitation. On the whole, my peace of mind represents contentment.

With peace, either individually, or ideally the world…it would mean an ideal state used to describe the end of a conflict. Be it in the household, the community, the country, the world! In order for that effect to take place, the world peace, there must be a beginning….peace of mind with every individual. That’s my humble opinion, of course.

For my globe, I used one of my favorite quotes, one I used to say to my own children when the ‘sibling rivalry’ took ‘hold, I always reminded them of this —today both my kids [now grown] use this quote – A LOT!!!:

Dona nobis pacem – grant us peace.
